[7:32 PM]JBarrell.DSP: Hello, I am Jay Barrell, a mold-school army guy with more nightmares than education…and I have had a LOT of education! So to exorcise my personal demons I write books and play TTRPGs.
[7:34 PM]JBarrell.DSP: Eight years ago I decided to combine my passions: games, history, science, writing, blowing shit up…and started writing a book about it all. Thus was “The Harrowed Earth” concieved!
[7:36 PM]JBarrell.DSP: It is a complete all-in-one-book rewrite of DnD, quite the challenge I know. The origin of the design philosophy was taken from the “making of” articles that were published in Dragon Magazine around the release of 3.0 D&D, only I went a step (or mile) FURTHER.
[7:37 PM]JBarrell.DSP: over the following eight years the project solidified, into a fully-realized game and world that takes place in a Gothic Horror version of Earth’s history, as a Dark Fantasy setting
[7:37 PM]JBarrell.DSP: everything from 5,000BCE up to 1,950AD! Why bother having long-lived races as an option in the game WITHOUT a long time to play them?
[7:39 PM]JBarrell.DSP: The game’s history is very America-focused, focusing on things that influenced its creation millenia BEFORE 1776. Including a LOT of “you can’t learn this until graduate school” stuff, as well as “prehistorical fantasy events”.
[7:40 PM]JBarrell.DSP: The idea is that, as any student of history will tell you, our past is a freaking HORROR SHOW! So…why not fight against the tides of darkness, and change the course of history, instead of just giving in with the hope you are eaten last?
