[7:36 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: Hi my name is Kyle Roat. I am excited to discuss Immortals RPG with you. I have designed a few games, though this is the first that I have designed for the purpose of publication. It is certainly a passion project. The game is inspired by old school themes, particularly appendix N, BECMI, and Advanced Dungeons and Dragons (1E). The game in total has 3 tiers of play, leading characters to eventually become immortal if they choose that path and manage to successfully walk down it. The game goes to level 10 in the first tier of play and takes characters from nobodies to name level, or to the point of earning a title by their power and reputation. The game is designed to allow for each class to strongly fulfill their particular roll. The combat is quick and deadly and if you are playing the full game, it focuses heavily on resource management over time. This part of the game can be ignored for those not seeking to play into higher tiers or who just don’t like tracking resources.
[7:37 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: Done.
[7:38 PM]Dan (Hardboiled GMshoe): Thanks, @Lost Legacies Gaming! The floor is open to questions!
[7:38 PM]Dan (Hardboiled GMshoe): Can you describe the setting?
[7:38 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: Yes
[7:40 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: The setting is also very unique to the game, though this can also be ignored if desired. The setting is a bit dark (though not quite grimdark). The Old gods crawled forth from the void and over time created all the planes using the power of the void. They being bored created vast worlds and creatures of all sorts.
[7:42 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: After thousands of years one of the gods gifted a favored mortal with immortality and brought them out of the material realm. That was the first immortal. Since, the other gods followed suit and each had their own immortal.
[7:44 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: The gods of chaos plotted against the gods of law, but they were overheard by their immortals. It was theorized that if the gods were to enter the material realm they would be trapped inside. The chaos gods planned to do this to the gods of law. The chaos immortals wanted to rule for themselves and so attempted to trap all the gods and the lawful immortals instead.
[7:44 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: The succeeded, but the lawful immortals were able to return, though the gods of law and chaos could not.
[7:45 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: The gods are unable to directly interact with the material world, but their presence causes certain areas to be tinged by either law or chaos. From that time on, the immortals ruled.
[7:46 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: The immortals coveted their powers and did not seek to share, but over time others attained immortality through their own means.
[7:47 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: The game is very dependent upon the immortals for the tone and feel of an area. Cities devoted to Vigil will have heritics on pikes, while cities dedicated to Sahra are peaceful and cities dedicated to Claytar are molevolent killers.
[7:49 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: The characters are encouraged to choose how they will relate to immortals. Some of the classes are necessarily involved with them such as priests, paladins, and warlocks. Others should choose an immortal or describe their indifference or hatred toward them.
[7:49 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: (done)
[7:50 PM]Dan (Hardboiled GMshoe): (No need for the (done) after the intro. Thanks, though! )
[7:50 PM]Dan (Hardboiled GMshoe): So how are the immortals different from the gods they supplanted?
[7:52 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: The gods are utterly immaterial and altogether different in essence. The immortals have used the power from the void (immortal power or IP) to transcend their mortal limitations. They are not unable to die. They just cannot be harmed by physical means or normal magic. Only by others who have IP.
[7:53 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: Spending IP allows for world building and game breaking things, but it is balanced by the IP being a resource. It functions as their hit points, their XP, and they expend temporarily or permanantly to do certain things.
[7:57 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: The White Box that is coming out only focuses on the first tier of play. It takes characters from 1st to 10th level. It does introduce some of the setting and includes an adventure as well. Tier 2 will contain info for mass combat, building domains, and paths for reaching immortality where characters begin to have access to IP. Tier 3 is after they have transcended to immortality and contains info on growing in ranks as immortals. The idea is to change the scale of the threat for each tier. In tier 1, characters stop the thief like 1960’s Spiderman. In tier 3 they traverse the planes to put an end to an existence wiping threat.
[7:58 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: The immortals are also different because they are more human-like in their rivalries. They went through stages of personal growth in this, where some of the immortals have toned down, but many treat the material plane as their chess board. Law vs. chaos.
[7:59 PM]Dan (Hardboiled GMshoe): And the gods trapped on the material plane just sort of affect the feel of the areas they’re in?
[8:01 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: Yes…exactly. The god Ichor dwells in the Dark Wood and his presence has caused the whole wood to be twisted and the trees to grow with an unnatural hue. The plants have become molevolent and in the center is an area where all color is sucked out of everything causing it to turn lifeless and grey.
[8:04 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: The darklings dwell here, but they are harassed by an evil ruler who has also been twisted by the effects of the wood. Think similar to the corruption of the one ring, some places affected by law, others by chaos.
[8:05 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: I am sharing a picture of the Darklings, but it will take a moment to load.
[8:06 PM]Dan (Hardboiled GMshoe): No problem!
[8:06 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming:
[8:07 PM]Dan (Hardboiled GMshoe): Are they based on Drow?
[8:09 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: They are similar to drow mixed with halfling in appearance, however they are a bit different. Races each have unique traits. I don’t have race as class, but each race has some unique ability. The dwarves use runes, trolls have a natural regeneration, and darklings naturally weave magic into their words when they speak (similar to Sarumon). They are tricky, bent toward chaos because of where they live, and dexterous.
[8:10 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: Not all have to be chaotic though.
[8:10 PM]Dan (Hardboiled GMshoe): Do you have elves, and if so, what are they like?
[8:12 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: The Ancients are “true” elves. They were created in the plane of the fey or elfland, but in their quest for knowlege ended up in the material plane. The ancients built a great library city, which now lies in ruins and the ancients are thought to be extinct. Elves are a mixed line of ancient and men. They are more fickle and less studious by nature than the ancients, but still have fey characteristics and long lifespans in the mortal realm.
[8:13 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: The elves are adept in melee, archery, and magic, where the ancients lean more toward magic.
[8:15 PM]Dan (Hardboiled GMshoe): I take it your elves tend toward the “high elf” archetype?
[8:16 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: The Ancients have the ability to read magic, the elves gain a random fey spell. I look at the ancients as more of a “high-elf” and the elves more like “wood elves.”
[8:16 PM]Dan (Hardboiled GMshoe): Ah, I see.
[8:17 PM]Dan (Hardboiled GMshoe): You mentioned trolls. Are they a PC race?
[8:20 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: As of right now they will not be included in the Whitebox set, but yes. I have 12 total races. I am running 2 long-term campaigns for play testing at the moment and both groups have a troll character. Healing isn’t easy to come by, so trolls shine for their regeneration and extra reach in melee.
[8:20 PM]Dan (Hardboiled GMshoe): What do your trolls look like?
[8:21 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: Three hearts and three lions for forest trolls and the character race. The cave trolls resemble Tolkein. I will throw in some pictures.
[8:22 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: I can only share one of the two pictures I have. The other is too large, but I have shared it in the Immortals RPG Facebook group and on Lost Legacies Gaming Facebook page.
[8:23 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming:1
[8:23 PM]Big, Bald, and Beardiful: I’m playing a Troll Monk in our current playtest. Also drew the best Troll but he won’t show it! 1
[8:24 PM]Dan (Hardboiled GMshoe): To what degree to Law and Chaos resemble Good and Evil in your setting?(edited)
[8:31 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: Alignment in the setting is a bit tricky. I have drawn from things such as Elric and Od&d in that alignment is more like a side in a war than an actual reflection of your views. However, priests and paladins have to choose an immortal and either law or chaos and they choose those who agree with them… Their choice determines the type of spells they have access to and which immortals they are connected with. I would say that some of the chaos immortals, like Odius are not evil. Sahra is good, but not so dogmatic as Vigil. VIgil is the immortal of justice and vengeance. Sahra is the immortal of peace. Claytar of War and Odius of Seeing. I think for priests and paladins, they probably line up with the personalities of their chosen immortal, but Warlocks on the other hand have to make a pact with a chaos immortal, though they may themselves disagree with that immortals designs. I think of Elric who seemed to me to be neutral, yet Arioch was using him for his own ends.(edited)
[8:33 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: I am sharing the illustration of Odius.
[8:35 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming:
[8:35 PM]Big, Bald, and Beardiful: How far will the White Box included Adventure take players? Will it take players to level 10 or only to a certain point and then encourage GM’s to create further stories to continue advancing players?
[8:36 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: Thanks for the question B,B,&B. The White box adventure only takes characters to 2nd level. The rules included provide for play to 10th level.1
[8:38 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: The sequel adventure is in the works and includes advanced wilderness travel rules and will be released in the next box set along with more classes such as the ranger, more races, and also rules for solo play.1
[8:39 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: The sequel adventure will take characters from 2nd to 4th or 5th level.
[8:39 PM]Big, Bald, and Beardiful: Very nice!
[8:42 PM]Dan (Hardboiled GMshoe): How many classes are there?
[8:43 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: There are 12 total classes, but as of right now there will only be 4 released in the white box (Warrior, Wizard, Thief, and Priest). The others are Berserker, Ranger, Assassin, Deviant, Paladin, Monk, Warlock, and Illusionist.
[8:44 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: A friend of mine has been having a whole lot of fun playing the illusionist. I mentioned in the intro that the game really focuses on letting classes fill their roles and the illusionist is one of the most unique ones (even though the illusionist class is certainly not new).
[8:45 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: I think the assassin is another one people will really have fun with. Though I think that about all of them so I admit my bias.
[8:50 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: UA or beta versions of some of the other classes will be available on the free tier of my Patreon, but not officially released in the Whitebox. There will be stretch goals to vote on adding additional classes though.
[8:53 PM]Dan (Hardboiled GMshoe): How likely is the average person to have encountered magic?
[8:58 PM]Dan (Hardboiled GMshoe): (brb)
[8:58 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: This is going to depend upon the area, but in villages and towns they generally have low-level acolytes that can use low-level lawful spells. Any knowledge they would have of chaos magic is most likely from nefarious sources. Cities often have high-priests and some have mages. Cities really differ greatly though. They usually are connected to some immortal and immortals like vigil will not put up with any chaos magic. A great many of the places are low-magic. Some places, such as the Crystal City of Wynwar are filled with magic and have magic academies, libraries, and a prison for magic users and magical beings.
[8:59 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: The magic system is roll-to-cast and can be dangerous. Common folk don’t mess with it.
[9:01 PM]Dan (Hardboiled GMshoe): How likely is the average person to have seen a monster?
[9:05 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: The classes available to player characters are all considered to be pretty rare. Common fighters or men at arms differ greatly from a leveled warrior or berserker. So in every class, I think they are an exception to the norm. Monsters are another story. Monsters are very prevalent. Mongrols were created by the chaos gods and encompass everything from kobolds and goblins to gnolls, ogres, and hill giants. Beasts are corrupted by chaos magic in the wilderness, cave-dwellers come up from the deep looking for flesh. The common folk survive by staying very near their towns. Travelling is dangerous, but the towns and cities are relatively safe (from monsters). Each town has a Keep on the borderlands feel since one could go from an area permeated by law into a twisted place of darkness very quickly.(edited)
[9:08 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: Even though monsters are prevalent, most folks know how to stay in areas that are safe. So overall they may go most of their lives not seeing monsters, but hearing terrifying stories right outside their borders.
[9:11 PM]Dan (Hardboiled GMshoe): Are there Lawful monsters?
[9:17 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: Most people stay within 5 miles of where they are born. Only the bold, the greedy, and the brave risk their necks with travelling into the wilderness. Travelling by caravan happens, but is expensive because it requires a small military force to accompany it. There are lawful monsters, but they are extremely rare. Even neutral monsters are an exception to the norm. Being chaotic does not mean they are necessarily evil, but most monsters are beastlike and chaotic by nature. Some can reject that for one reason or another, but I would want a valid reason that makes sense to be provided. The trolls that players can play are often bullied by their larger cousins. The same is true with goblins. Some of them have infiltrated lawful lands and live as hermits that are permitted, but not necessarily accepted. Neutral and Chaotic cities are often filled with monsters of a different sort than those that live in caves and wilderness. They are still mostly chaotic, but are a 3rd or 4th generation city monster and have fully integrated and are accepted.(edited)
[9:17 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: Sharing an illustration from such a city
[9:18 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming:
[9:18 PM]Dan (Hardboiled GMshoe): Goblins?
[9:18 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: Yep
[9:18 PM]Dan (Hardboiled GMshoe): Very nice art!
[9:18 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: 4th generation city goblins. Illustration by Kiril Tchangov(edited)
[9:19 PM]Dan (Hardboiled GMshoe): Do you have a character sheet that we can see?
[9:20 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: Kiril is actually working on the character sheets for the box set, but I can try to share the one I made as a place holder.
[9:21 PM]Dan (Hardboiled GMshoe): That should be fine. This is just for system reference.
[9:21 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: Here is the pamphlet version we are working on for the box set. A level 1 dwarf warrior.Warrior_Character_Sheet.pdf969.42 KB
[9:22 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: I will share my full page one as well.
[9:23 PM]Dan (Hardboiled GMshoe): Looks like the system is 100% attribute-based, no skills?
[9:25 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming:Immortals_Character_Sheet.pdf530.52 KB
[9:26 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: Only thieves, assassins, and deviants get specific skills in their class advancement. Some get one or two from their race or profession.
[9:26 PM]Dan (Hardboiled GMshoe): Ah, I see a place for skills in that second sheet.
[9:27 PM]Dan (Hardboiled GMshoe): Can you describe task resolution?
[9:30 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: Anyone can attempt to do anything. The GM has them roll a D20 using their relevant ability score bonus. Having additional skill bonuses means that they are proficient or specially trained in those areas. I have to head over to another discord channel now for an Immortals Playtest, but if anyone has any more questions they can message me on Facebook at Lost Legacies Gaming or send me an email. lostlegaciesgaming@gmail.com(edited)
[9:31 PM]Lost Legacies Gaming: Thanks for having me on Dan!
