Hello everybody! I am Gavriel Quiroga creator of Warpland and Neurocity. I am now campaigning for Hell Night, my doom biker RPG
[06-Dec-21 07:40 PM] Dan Davenport#6715
Pardon me while I copy/paste some text for our guest, who is having technical issues…
[06-Dec-21 07:40 PM] Dan Davenport#6715
HELL NIGHT is Doom Biker RPG setting based in the 80s that will be presented in a visually stunning artbook. Each page will feature mindblowing illustrations and a powerful writing which will inspire you to delve further into this world which feels like your favorite badass metal album cover.
[06-Dec-21 07:41 PM] Dan Davenport#6715
The book will provide a fully immersive agnostic setting experience with an optional system of preference which has been tried & tested successfully with the authors former works (Neurocity and Warpland) and can be explained to a newcomer to the RPG hobby in 15 minutes.
[06-Dec-21 07:41 PM] Dan Davenport#6715
The game will feature:
BLACK COMEDY, characters will be infernal denizens riding biomechanical hellbikes dealing with the most extreme version of the consumerism VHS era. The game will include quirky characters, hilarious random tables and original mechanics which break the fourth wall and give you the feeling of playing within a cheesy Hollywood flick.
[06-Dec-21 07:41 PM] Dan Davenport#6715
ULTRA VIOLENCE, designed for one shots or small arch storylines, the setting and mechanics promote all the gore and mutilation scenes which pay tribute to our most beloved horror genre and its cult movies. The book will include gruesome critical hit tables, wicked high-fantasy weaponry and infernal dark powers.
[06-Dec-21 07:41 PM] Dan Davenport#6715
A DEEP LORE, because we believe that presenting awesome aesthetics and mechanics is not enough the game will feature an original Lore that is interesting and designed to grow and change with the players involvement plus a cosmology which is engaging without being cumbersome to the reader. Hell is turning itself apart due to a leaderless hierarchy, rebel demons are escaping to Earth, the Celestial are threatening war while their angels fall unto the mortal realm assaulted by doubt and disbelief, mortal warlocks are succumbing evermore to promises of power and Elder Gods from a bygone age are stiring anxiously waiting for an opportunity to seize reality itself again.

Time is the currency of life. @Gavriel_Quiroga Why should people spend their time on your Hell Night? In a flooded market of RPG’s what does your game provide more than any other, what makes your game unique and why should people play it more than any other?
[06-Dec-21 07:49 PM] Gavriel_Quiroga#3530
Because I spent 7 months to think about an idea worthwhile to develop. This is the only thing I do, and I am commited to do it 110%. I doubt anybody in the frickin industry is willing to submit to such suicidal tendencies. You can read any of my works and you can see my blood pouring from the pages.
[06-Dec-21 07:49 PM] Dan Davenport#6715
That’s some serious passion right there.
[06-Dec-21 07:50 PM] Gavriel_Quiroga#3530
haha. Truly man. Its insane.
[06-Dec-21 07:50 PM] Gavriel_Quiroga#3530
But really, my playtesters are hooked on the setting. It works. It is gonzo, it is fun, it is fast.
[06-Dec-21 07:50 PM] Dan Davenport#6715
Is the game set in Hell, on Earth, or both?
[06-Dec-21 07:50 PM] Henry#3418
@Gavriel_Quiroga Is your System unique to this setting?
[06-Dec-21 07:52 PM] Gavriel_Quiroga#3530
Dan, it has two play modes. You can play it in 80s Earth or you can play it in Hell. I must say say Hell is in turmoil because Lucifer is missing. That is why demons are running amok on Earth.
[06-Dec-21 07:53 PM] Gavriel_Quiroga#3530
Henry, it is my workhorse system, been using it for Neurocity and Warpland. It is ideal for non-rpg players. It is very intuitive, fast, easy to learn, allows for complications in both successes and failures. You just need a 2d6.
[06-Dec-21 07:53 PM] Dan Davenport#6715
Do the players play demons by default?
[06-Dec-21 07:54 PM] Gavriel_Quiroga#3530
Feedback has been great and I fully understand the difficulties of learning a new system.
[06-Dec-21 07:54 PM] Henry#3418
@Gavriel_Quiroga What mechanic do you think we can find in your system that we won’t find in another which is unique to your setting?
[06-Dec-21 07:55 PM] Gavriel_Quiroga#3530
Dan, players may play former Warlocks now serving Hell, or Fallen Angels looking for a way back to Heaven, or Revenants, mortals who are giving another chance in life in exchange for a service (think of The Crow)
[06-Dec-21 07:56 PM] Dan Davenport#6715
Cool.
[06-Dec-21 07:59 PM] Gavriel_Quiroga#3530
I think that it is very difficult to present a simple system that is also dynamic. My emphasis has always been in practicality. I want non-gamers to play and I want to make things easier on the GM. So this allows for a lot manouvering, encouring action, with less dice roll, zero looking up into the book unless you want to use any of the dozen of random tables which serve to produce ideas and a story. The system also has damage within the attack roll which actually makes sense, it has a spectrum and it adequates to the character physical prowess.
[06-Dec-21 07:59 PM] Gavriel_Quiroga#3530
The game will also come with 4 critical hit tables for each damage type, slashing, blunt, piercing and bullets. They come into effect with critical successes.
[06-Dec-21 08:00 PM] Dan Davenport#6715
Does the game setting have any main antagonists, or is it more of a free-for-all?
[06-Dec-21 08:01 PM] Gavriel_Quiroga#3530
The main antagonists are the fugitive archdemons which used to reign over the myriad circles in Hell and are now rampant on Earth. But you will also meet vampires, archangels, witches, wraiths, cultists, bikers and there are ancient primordial gods looking for an opportunity to reclaim reality.
[06-Dec-21 08:02 PM] Gavriel_Quiroga#3530
So it is all an ideal hot pot for a proper horror b-movie extravaganza.
[06-Dec-21 08:02 PM] Henry#3418
@Gavriel_Quiroga The question must come, why not 5e and if not 5e why not one of its well-known competitors? Such as Power by the Apocalypse, Savage Worlds or Fate? Why put in the massive work that is making a unique system?
[06-Dec-21 08:04 PM] Gavriel_Quiroga#3530
I had the same question in this chatroom when developing Neurocity. Because I truly enjoy mechanics, I understand the pros and cons of every diceroll, and I know how to develop a tailor made system that works specifically to the game experience I want to propose.
[06-Dec-21 08:05 PM] Henry#3418
@Gavriel_Quiroga What is your least favourite aspect of Hell Night?
[06-Dec-21 08:09 PM] Gavriel_Quiroga#3530
The least favourite aspect is that I do not have permission to publish the dozens of cool art posters from b-movies I would like to include in the book. I am lucklily working with a team of talented artists which are creating wonderful, inspiring work. The game does what it was designed to do, deliver a brutal tour du force experience with splashes of black humour. I am truly thrilled to present it. This is the project I spent the whole year developing.
[06-Dec-21 08:10 PM] Dan Davenport#6715
Given the apparent power levels of the protagonists, can this really be considered a “horror” game, as opposed to “dark fantasy”?
[06-Dec-21 08:10 PM] Dan Davenport#6715
Or even “dark supers”?
[06-Dec-21 08:11 PM] Henry#3418
@Gavriel_Quiroga Imagine…
Imagine Hell Night has gone triple platinum, people no longer say I am going to play D&D they say Hell Night instead. People cosplay as characters from your game and people wear merch about Hell Night like Nirvana T-Shirts, saying I know that bad. Think Minecraft, Dark Souls, or Marvel Movies levels of succes. Imaging that.
- How does it make you feel?
- What is the thing that gets you in trouble?
- What is the one thing you loved from your game that now makes you cringe?
[06-Dec-21 08:13 PM] Gavriel_Quiroga#3530
I don´t know, Dan! I guess it has a bit of everything. What would you call a Slayer demon entering an arcade with a two handed axe looking to exterminate an archdemon that is corrupting the mind of children through a videogame? I would call it 80s B-movie awesomeness.
[06-Dec-21 08:15 PM] Gavriel_Quiroga#3530
- Everytime my games are played it makes feel proud and happy. Whatever the level of success. I am not in this for fame or fortune. I am an artist in every sense of the word despite the word being quite slandered at the current moment.
[06-Dec-21 08:16 PM] Gavriel_Quiroga#3530
- That I want to move to something else. Do something different and everyone is still hyped.
[06-Dec-21 08:19 PM] Gavriel_Quiroga#3530
- I think all of us creator have a hard time settling with the ¨this is enough¨aspect of our games. We could spent our lives working on a single project. We just need to let go and accept mistakes as something valuable that are part of the work. That is also a main part of indie creations. Humanity fails and that is all right with me. I actually love mistakes. They show that there is not a corporation behind our backs, we are fallible and thus humane and true to ourselves.
[06-Dec-21 08:20 PM] Dan Davenport#6715
Interesting answers!
[06-Dec-21 08:20 PM] Henry#3418
@Gavriel_Quiroga What is the one thing you wished people asked about Hell Night but haven’t yet?
[06-Dec-21 08:24 PM] Gavriel_Quiroga#3530
The system has been tweaked a bit to encourage gonzo violence. It will have Grit points which can be spent to allow for critical successes, and you may recover Grit points through special Edges like “Getting bathed in blood” or “doing a stunt with your bike” or “Killing an archangel”. Si it works like circle of violence that keeps feeding on itself, and that is one of its main premises.
[06-Dec-21 08:25 PM] Gavriel_Quiroga#3530
I think many will fall on in the love with the mechanics
[06-Dec-21 08:25 PM] Henry#3418
I am sorry I am not sure which that is an answer on
[06-Dec-21 08:25 PM] Dan Davenport#6715
Does the game include a bestiary, and if so, how large?
[06-Dec-21 08:25 PM] Gavriel_Quiroga#3530
Sorry, Henry, I was answering your question of what was not asked!
[06-Dec-21 08:26 PM] Henry#3418
ahh okay that’s what I thought it but it wasn’t clear
[06-Dec-21 08:27 PM] Gavriel_Quiroga#3530
It has a chapter of antagonists which will have about 12 different types of enemies. But the real deal are archdemons, the book will have a table for creating these demons, which can range from big behemoths which breath fire to pools of goo with mind control powers. It will be quite a challenge to defeat them and they must be approached with caution!
[06-Dec-21 08:27 PM] Henry#3418
@Gavriel_Quiroga have asked you a few questions and I hope they have been helpful, so this is my…
Final Question. What are people not talking about in the Roleplaying community that should be and why?
[06-Dec-21 08:32 PM] Gavriel_Quiroga#3530
Henry, you have been very helpful. I personally consider RPG´s as the epitome of games, and I think they are a useful for experiences that would otherwise be far from our reach. I guess I would like a bit more consciousness about this, games are a primordial tool for understanding our reality since our childhood.
[06-Dec-21 08:33 PM] Henry#3418
Thanks old China I hope you have great success. I am going to be off now you have a great day.
[06-Dec-21 08:34 PM] Dan Davenport#6715
Take care, @Henry!

[06-Dec-21 08:36 PM] Dan Davenport#6715
No problem! In that case, can you describe the elements that make up a Hell Night character? (Attributes, skills, etc.)
[06-Dec-21 08:36 PM] Dan Davenport#6715
(And brb)
[06-Dec-21 08:37 PM] Gavriel_Quiroga#3530
Guts, Style and Brains. And the Grit which you can spend to achieve stunts and reroll dices. Then infernal powers for each class and Edges plus a space for your Hellride, your biomechanical demonic vehicle.
[06-Dec-21 08:40 PM] Dan Davenport#6715
Can you describe task resolution?
[06-Dec-21 08:41 PM] Gavriel_Quiroga#3530
Our workhorse system which we have used with my previous games is a 2d6 roll under the stat, which allows for complications in successes and failures and also crits. It has a damage within the attack roll as well.
[06-Dec-21 08:41 PM] Dan Davenport#6715
How are crits determined?
[06-Dec-21 08:44 PM] Gavriel_Quiroga#3530
every succesful roll of 8 +
[06-Dec-21 08:46 PM] Dan Davenport#6715
Ah, so you have to have a certain ability level in order to get a crit at all?
[06-Dec-21 08:47 PM] Gavriel_Quiroga#3530
Yes, a mediocre ability would be unable to get a crit while being super badass at something increases your chances of obtaining a crit!
[06-Dec-21 08:47 PM] Dan Davenport#6715
Sensible enough!
[06-Dec-21 08:48 PM] Dan Davenport#6715
How is damage determined in the attack roll?
[06-Dec-21 08:49 PM] Gavriel_Quiroga#3530
The highest rolled dice plus damage modifiers for the weapon state final damage. So that causes that the better you are at something the more damage you usually cause.
[06-Dec-21 08:51 PM] Dan Davenport#6715
I understand that you need to head out. Is there anything we haven’t covered that you’d like to mention?

I think we covered key aspects! Main thing is that Hell Night will also be a visual experience. Show not tell is part of the philosophy behind it and the book will be an awesome rule-artbook to enjoy!
[06-Dec-21 08:53 PM] Dan Davenport#6715
Great!
