<+KD_ScienceLady> Knuckledragger is a virtual tabletop RPG which is a virtual tabletop with it’s own built in game system and universe
<~Dan> Thanks, KD_Shawn67! The floor is open to questions!
<~Dan> What is the genre of the game?
<+KD_ScienceLady> It’s a sci-fi, desert punk game
<+KD_Shawn67> It’s kind of grungy, postapocalyptic type stuff
<~Dan> Road Warrior stuff?
<+KD_ScienceLady> Definitely! Mad Max was a huge inspiration for the game!
<~Dan> How would you describe the tech level?
<+KD_ScienceLady> The aesthetics of the Mad Max series was particularly inspirational
<+KD_ScienceLady> Super duper fantastic tech
<+KD_ScienceLady> Think science as replacement for magic
<~Dan> Is such technology rare?
<+KD_ScienceLady> especially because the playable races are protosociety type people
<+KD_ScienceLady> The technology is abundant and built into every facet of life for the residents of Planet
<+KD_ScienceLady> The moment tech entered their lives, it changed everything for the residents of Planet
<+KD_ScienceLady> But the tech isn’t well understood by the people who use it
<~Dan> How does such wondrous technology exist alongside a grungy, Mad Max-style setting?
<+KD_ScienceLady> The story of Knuckledragger takes place 400 years after alien visitors tried to gift the residents of Planet with amazing technology
<+KD_ScienceLady> As soon as the aliens arrived, they were slaughtered by the citizens
<+KD_ScienceLady> and the alien’s tech was looted
<~Dan> Ah, I see.
<~Dan> What does “protosociety” mean?
<+KD_ScienceLady> Protosociety is a baby society, in that a society is just forming
<+KD_Shawn67> A lot of the playable races had only just begun to organize as large groups when the aliums showed up
<~Dan> What are the playable races?
<+KD_ScienceLady> There are 9 playable races
<+KD_ScienceLady> 1. Arrivad: Amphibious farming bois
<+KD_ScienceLady> 2. Basahnin: Roving warriors kind of like Klingons
<+KD_ScienceLady> but more pig like
<+KD_ScienceLady> 3. Ferrick: Vain bird people and a very strict social order
<+KD_ScienceLady> 4. Holeg: Cave dwellers who use echolocation and have a deep connection with nature. They tend to use the least tech
<+KD_ScienceLady> 5. Human: Human. Superstitious and highly territorial weirdos
<+KD_ScienceLady> 6. Illawmi: Rat people with super sniffing abilities, they only recently obtained access to high tech
<+KD_ScienceLady> 7. Kassari: Techno cult lizards who worship tech
<+KD_ScienceLady> 8. Khura: Thin, lanky trickers who swindle and believe that swindling is an art form
<+KD_ScienceLady> 9. And finally, the Mogo who are brutal warriors and like to party
<+KD_Shawn67> I have more I probably could say but that could devolve into rambling real quick
<~Dan> Are there any special powers available to PCs, like mutations and/or psionics?
<+KD_ScienceLady> There are many special powers! On character creation you choose a credential which references your characters background and gives them permanent special abilities.
<+KD_ScienceLady> You also choose a fixi which is a special body modification that gives you a power
<+KD_ScienceLady> You also have a blessing which is a special item your character starts with
<+KD_ScienceLady> You also gain special powers at you level different attributes
<~Dan> How outlandish are these special abilities? Are we talking laserbeam eyes and the like?
<+KD_ScienceLady> That outlandish and more!
<+KD_ScienceLady> Hi Kiwi_65! Welcome!
<+KD_ScienceLady> One of the blessings is called Hover Hammer
<+KD_ScienceLady> It is a hammer that carries objects for you because it can’t accutally hit things
<~Dan> (Welcome to #randomworlds, kiwi_65! You can set your name with the /nick command; e.g., /nick Dan 🙂 )
<~Dan> (Ditto, kiwi_90!)
<+KD_ScienceLady> You can get nanobot tattoos, springy knees, diamond teeth
<+KD_ScienceLady> We made it a point to make the powers over the top and silly
<~Dan> Were you inspired by Gamma World?
<~Dan> Whoops… I’m being called to dinner. I’ll be back in a bit!
<+KD_ScienceLady> We have never heard of Gamma World unfortunately, but it sounds like we should check it out!
<~Dan> (It’s the first post-apocalypse RPG.)
<+KD_ScienceLady> We can take any other questions in the mean time 🙂
<+KD_ScienceLady> Asked by Ron on LiveStream: Can a game group play for say two hours and stop and then pick it up again at a predetermined time?
<+KD_ScienceLady> Answer: Yes! The game can be left and picked up any time the players decide
<+KD_ScienceLady> Asked by Ron on Livestream: So a game can go on for months?
<+KD_ScienceLady> Answer: Yes! It can go as long as the players want and as long as the campaign story naturally plays out
<+KD_ScienceLady> Asked by Ron on livestream: Is there a character in the game you identify with?
<+KD_ScienceLady> Answer: He’s thought of every playable race, but he doesn’t identify with any of the races.
<+danhunsaker> What’s your least favorite thing about Knuckledragger?
<+KD_ScienceLady> Some of the members of our team relate to the Kassari we because we would love to chop off a body part and replace it with a cyborg body part
<+KD_ScienceLady> By Knuckledragger’s nature it is difficult to play in a physical group of people in person
<+KD_ScienceLady> so you won’t be sitting around a table with your friends playing knuckledragger
<+KD_Shawn67> Because we put our focus on the virtual aspect of the game its really difficult to make that translate to an irl ttrpg
<+KD_Shawn67> We have plans for how to get around that aspect but they’re still in really early concepting
<+KD_ScienceLady> Asked by Ron on Livestream: what is the least and most people that can play in one game session?
<+KD_ScienceLady> Answer: A group needs at least one player and one Map Daddy and then up to 4 additional players
<+KD_ScienceLady> Asked by Bill on Livestream: My brain hole lol it wants to know what state do you consider the game in right now? Alpha, Beta, Compleated pending expansions?
<+KD_ScienceLady> Answer: We’re in pre-alpha, awaiting a backend developer. All the core parts of the game are finished, but not implemented as code. Our kickstarter will fund the developer.
<+KD_ScienceLady> So much of the game is around the random number generator within the program so we can’t pretest yet, but when we do we will test the game and make imporvements until it can be the best version of the game it can be
<+KD_ScienceLady> Asked by Bill on Livestream: Knuckledragges already has several races planned to be playable for play testing… youve also mentioned the idea of adding more races. Did you have a number of races? Or perhaps considered custom races for donation tiers over xyz?
<+KD_ScienceLady76> We don’t plan on limiting the number of races, but we don’t want to make the races redundant
<~Dan-afk> (Almost done, guys. Just need to brush my teeth. 🙂 )
<~Dan> Okay! So sorry about that.
<+KD_Shawn67> Its all good my dude
<~Dan> Are there any primary antagonists in the game?
<+KD_ScienceLady> Every time I come back to it, the Mogo will probably be the antagonists in many games, but it is really up to how you want to play the game to determine the antagonists
<+KD_ScienceLady> Antagonists could be anything you could punch really
<~Dan> On a related note, do you have a bestiary
<+KD_ScienceLady> except maybe the weather
<+KD_ScienceLady> We do have one! It’s in the works. We have a decent number of creatures with a mix of creatures that are actually from the real world and some creatures that are completely made up
<+KD_ScienceLady> like the duckhorse
<+KD_Shawn67> (neither duck nor horse)
<~Dan> About how many entries do you anticipated having in the bestiary?
<+KD_ScienceLady> Livestream Q: are there age appropriate sessions? I mean can a parent give their kids ok to play in a kid appropriate environment and have a more “adult” environment for say > 18?
<+KD_ScienceLady> Answer: Yes we will have a rating system to enables people to express was age group their game is appropriate for and if you are under 18 you won’t see 18+ games
<+KD_ScienceLady> The bestiary is going to be part of our websites, styled like a wiki, so it will be every growing.
<+KD_ScienceLady> There will be around 70 or so beasties on launch
<~Dan> Very impressive!
<~Dan> Do you have anything resembling a character sheet that we can see?
<+KD_ScienceLady> That is a good question, we are having our artist look it up. We have a lot of stuff drawn
<+KD_ScienceLady> However, character sheets are less important in our game because everything about the character is stored online
<+KD_ScienceLady> and there will be other ways for you to see that information within the game display itself
<~Dan> Can you describe the game’s system?
<+KD___ScienceLady> The system emphasizes proactivity. What that means is that at every turn we worked to make sure that there is as little downtime as possible
<+KD_Shawn67> Action resolution is completed through minigames instead of more traditional means like dice or cards. We really want players to always feel like they’re doing things
<+KD_Shawn67> Combat is done using automatic commands so that players can all act simultaneously which means no more combat turns and more importantly no more combat downtime
<~Dan> Can you describe these minigames?
<+KD___ScienceLady> They are short puzzles, the longest of which is 25 to 30 seconds
<+KD___ScienceLady> they all have variable difficulty which is determined by your skill and by random number generation
<+KD___ScienceLady> but a skilled player can overcome the random number generator
<+KD___ScienceLady> To track something, you might have to play a game similar to something in mastermind
<~Dan> So the higher your skill, the easier the puzzle?
<+KD___ScienceLady> With critical level puzzles requiring you to just click once
<~Dan> How is combat resolved?
<+KD___ScienceLady> Combat is resolved through simultaneous turns so different players will all choose their actions at the same time.
<~Dan> Right, but what determines whether an attack is successful?
<+KD_Shawn67> One sec it’s a little tough to put concisely
<+KD_Shawn67> Minigames. So combat takes place in phases that all players pass through together. One of those phases is the one in which you act. During that phase when you make an attack you’ll start your own minigame and your success there determines whether the attack hits successfully
<+KD_Shawn67> Your targets defenses are factored into the difficutlty of the to hit minigame
<+KD_Shawn67> Oh wait one last thing
<+KD_Shawn67> Then once everyone has said what they wanna do and done their minigame actions are resolved in order of speed in the last phase of combat before the new rounds starts.
<+KD_Shawn67> Certain actions have fixed speeds while some have variable speeds based on the speed of the person performing the action
<+KD_Shawn67> (now done)
<~Dan> In the time remaining, is there anything we haven’t covered that you’d like to bring up?
<+KD___ScienceLady> Sure! We have a kickstarter that is going live in 4 days, on February 11th
<+KD___ScienceLady> You can like us on Facebook where we will post a link to the kickstarter
<+KD___ScienceLady> once the kickstarter is done we will start implementing code and looking for alpha testers!
<+KD_Shawn67> For clarity looking for alpha testers will come a bit after we start implementing code, but definitely keep an eye out for that.
<~Dan> Usual reminder: If you’ve enjoyed this Q&A and would like to treat me to a coffee or two, you can do so at (Link: https://ko-fi.com/gmshoe)https://ko-fi.com/gmshoe . Anything’s appreciated!
<+KD_Shawn67> Otherwise I think I just want people to know that if you want a game that feels as action as the stories in it I think we’re going to be that and then some
<~Dan> Thanks very much for joining us, guys!
<+KD_Shawn67> Thank you for having us
<~Dan> And I apologize again for the interruption. It’s been a weird day.
<+KD___ScienceLady> Thanks for having us!
<~Dan> I do hope you’ll feel welcome to hang out with us any time you like! We’re always open.
<+KD___ScienceLady> No problem Dan, we’re very thankful for the opportunity!
<~Dan> Now, if you’ll give me just a minute here, I’ll get the log posted and link you!
