<~Dan> Thanks, StedeLindgren! The floor is open to questions!
<~Dan> First, does the game have a setting, or is it strictly a system?
<+StedeLindgren> it has a fantasy setting much like that of lord of the rings. yet very diffrent. it has a deep rich history spaning over vloumes.
<+StedeLindgren> though the system could be used for other settings
<~Dan> So Elves, Dwarves, Orcs, etc.?
<+StedeLindgren> yes along with many other races. well over 100 yet they all have there natural place in the world an it’s history.
<~Dan> 100 races? Wow… Are they all playable?
<+StedeLindgren> very much so
<~Dan> Can you give us some examples of the more exotic options?
<+StedeLindgren> Randorain, Targoth, and Aqualin.
<+StedeLindgren> The Randorain are orc like standing a near 7 feet tall.
<+StedeLindgren> they have gray skin small pointed ears and beady red eyes
<+StedeLindgren> they invented the samurai class. they live in high mountains and are masters of enchanting items.
<~Dan> (wb, DukeOfChutney!)
<+StedeLindgren> the Targoths look like humans. they have strang black birth marks on their bodies. some say it is an abstract prediction of how they will die, but only becomes evident upon the scene of their death.
<+StedeLindgren> they are nearly extinct and have the unique ability to control metal like magneto.
<+StedeLindgren> they once almost ruled the world but were defeated by another race called Winguls.
<+StedeLindgren> Aqualin live under the sea. they look like humans only their hair is blue and looks like moveing water, due to their mana type. they have the ability to turn into water for short periods of time sliping through doors, dodgeing attacks and speedily traveling through water.
<+StedeLindgren> that is just a little summery off the top of my head. (done)
<~Dan> (Howdy, FreeGamer!)
<~Dan> Given the number of races, I’m curious about the size of the rulebook. How many pages is it?
<+StedeLindgren> the rule book it’s self doesn’t need to mention any races as the rules apply to all unless their feats and abilites say otherwise. but the rule book is probably 7 or ten pages.
<+StedeLindgren> (done)
<~Dan> 7-10 pages? How do you squeeze a whole game into that few pages?
<+StedeLindgren> the rule book just explains the mechanincs and the system of how the game works. there are seperate books with races, classes, spells, enchanted items, monsters and so on.
<+StedeLindgren> for instance there are atleast 600 fair and balanced classes and counting.
<+StedeLindgren> (done)
<+Dan_> Ah, I see. How many books total?
<+StedeLindgren> thats a difficult question as the information can be presented in any number of was. for example i could have a large book with nature based classes like Ranger, Druid, Green knight, Geomancer and so on. or you could get a large book strictly with archer based classes and that would have skyline archer, sniper, ranger, Rask archer and so on. you see just like
<+StedeLindgren> ranger overlaps in both, there would be many more overlaping like that.
<+StedeLindgren> (done)
<+Dan_> Ah, so you haven’t decided yet how you’re going to break that down?
<+StedeLindgren> well right now for the kickstarter the top pledge has 150 classes that you would get. and they are taken from a good variety of classes. that is already decied.
<~Dan> (Not sure what’s up with my connection this evening…)
<~Dan> How many monsters are included with the Kickstarter?
<+StedeLindgren> there will perhaps be endless books as the world of Adeltha is so vast, but the kickstarter will come with one book. it will have the rules and agood number of everything included. there will be enough monsters for the quest lines in each pledge. so around 20 per quest line. and some pledges have up to 3 questlines in them.
<+StedeLindgren> (done)
<~Dan> A quest line being an adventure?
<+StedeLindgren> yes a campaign or story
* ~Dan nods
<~Dan> Who are the main antagonists in the setting?
<+StedeLindgren> each quest line has diffrent trails and foes. but one of them as an example is Triston Hench. his class is a Morbid Masker they have the power to shape shift into looking like other, but they do so in a very gruesome way, by cutting of a persons face and putting it on. useing magic to chage to their form.
<~Dan> Yikes.
<+StedeLindgren> he uses his powers to reek havoc for his master isichar.
<+StedeLindgren> yep one scary guy out of many
<+StedeLindgren> not are all that gruesome i might add
<+StedeLindgren> (done)
<~Dan> Do you have a character sheet that we can see?
<~Dan> (Howdy, JamesGillen!)
<+JamesGillen> howdee
<+StedeLindgren> yes.
<+StedeLindgren> how do i link it to this page?
<~Dan> If it’s posted somewhere, you can just post the URL.
<+StedeLindgren> it’s not yet posted anywhere. but i will put it on the kickstarer page tonight if anyone wants to see it.
<+StedeLindgren> i could give a summery of it if that would help.
<~Dan> Sure, that would be great.
<+StedeLindgren> okay so it has name, race, class, birth sign, description, feats list, spell list, skill list, item list, and a stat list includeing: Strength, Accuracy, Agility, Toughness, Personality, and Utility.
<+StedeLindgren> (done)
<~Dan> What is Utility?
<+StedeLindgren> it is how quickly your charecter picks up skills. the stat gives a modifier and the modifier is the number of unassigned skill points you get each level. you may place unassigned pionts in any skill you choose.
<+StedeLindgren> it is nice for all, but most helpful for rouge like charecters, and artifiecers, alchemists and such.
<+StedeLindgren> (done)
<~Dan> What is the scale for attributes?
<+StedeLindgren> so when you roll stats you roll 3 six sided dice add that number togather. you do that 7 times then you assign the nummbers to each attribute. every 2 pionts past 10 is a modifier.
<+StedeLindgren> however uitility’s modifier is diffrent. it is every 1 point past 10 then ad 3.
<+JamesGillen> 7 times? There’s six stats
<+StedeLindgren> oh sorry Inteligence is also a stat. haha
<~Dan> Irony!
<+StedeLindgren> lolz i know
<~Dan> 🙂
<~Dan> So modifiers apply to skill use?
<+JamesGillen> At least you didn’t mis-spell “Intelligence” on the character sheet
<+StedeLindgren> yes, but they have other attributes of their own. strength: increases how many items you can hold, it addeds to melee damage. Accuracy: increase your chance of hiting while attacking, agility is how your charecter can dodge incoming attacks, it also provides who goes first in combat.
<+StedeLindgren> toughness is how many hits your charecter can take tell he/she dies
<+StedeLindgren> intelligece is how many spell slots you get, and how much mana you have.
<+StedeLindgren> (done)
<~Dan> Is Accuracy used for both melee and missile combat?
<+StedeLindgren> yes it is.
* ~Dan nods
<~Dan> How broad are skills?
<+StedeLindgren> there are plenty of lesser skills like Stone working, fishing, navigation. but there are about 20 mahoir skills, such as: Concentration, reflex, blocking, enchanting, sprinting, sneaking, slieght of hand and so on.
<+StedeLindgren> *major
<+StedeLindgren> sorry my spelling very poor
<~Dan> No worries!
<+StedeLindgren> *is
<+StedeLindgren> lolz
<~Dan> What is the game’s basic task resolution mechanic?
<+StedeLindgren> so if a task is check worthy, lets say climbing a tree while being pursued by a titanic Blade mouth. the difficulty of the task, in this case 13, must be cleared by a roll plus mods. you roll a d20 and add your skill and your mod over that skill. if it is equal to or greater then the check you suceed.
<~Dan> (Howdy, Woo77!)
<+StedeLindgren> if you roll a 20
<+Woo77> hi folks
<+Woo77> (oops sorry)
<~Dan> (No problem, Woo77!)
<+StedeLindgren> it is considered a critical and does a better effect, usally double.
<+StedeLindgren> but if you do roll a 20 you may roll a d4 if it land on for it is a super critical
<+StedeLindgren> and then you roll a d6 if it lands on 6 you continue and so on’
<+StedeLindgren> but this also works in the negative. if you roll a 1
<~Dan> (wb, woo77)
<+StedeLindgren> it is an auto fail, then you roll a d4 if it lands on 4 it is a tragedy
<+StedeLindgren> you then roll a 6 and so on
* ~Dan nods
<+StedeLindgren> (done)
<~Dan> How does combat work?
<+StedeLindgren> it goes in turns after unless it is a sneak attack. each person has one Attack action and one move action.
<+StedeLindgren> they move 6 spaces around
<+StedeLindgren> the attack action can also be used to do move action tasks
<+StedeLindgren> switching weapons, moveing, opening doors, and so on
<+StedeLindgren> the move action can also be used to acess addition skills such as concetration, refleck, blocking, lifitng
* ~Dan nods
<+StedeLindgren> they are all skills that can add to the combat of a battle. How you use reflex is you roll a reflex check divide the result by 5 round down then add that number to your agility score for the round. How you use concentrate roll a concentration check divide the result by 5 round down then add that number to your Accuracy mod for the following attack. How you us
<~Dan> (Cut off at “how you us”)
<+StedeLindgren> lifitng adds to strength blocking works similerly but blocks points of incomeing damage.
<+StedeLindgren> (done)
<~Dan> How is damage determined?
<+StedeLindgren> you first use your attack action to attack a foe you roll a d20 and add your accuracy mod. if the resulting number is equal to or greater then their agility mod plus 10, you will hit. each weapon has a dice roll attached to it and a feat or feats. you then roll that dice
<+StedeLindgren> you add your strength mod to the resulting number
<+StedeLindgren> if it is a melee or thrown weapon
<~Dan> Does armor reduce damage?
<+StedeLindgren> it does. light blocks 1 damage for 7 attacks, medium blocks 2 for 7, heavy blocks 3 for 7. but feats can change the amount
<+Woo77> (sorry connection problems)
<+StedeLindgren> armor does have penalties though. light reduces movement, and agility based skills by 1
<~Dan> What happens after 7 attacks? The armor breaks?
<+StedeLindgren> casting spells cost 1 more mp
<+StedeLindgren> correct and you can take it to a smith for repairs or repair it for yourself if you have the skill.
* ~Dan nods
<~Dan> You mentioned mp… Mana/magic points?
<+StedeLindgren> i’m not good with words. but it goes into way better detail on the kickstarter page.
<+StedeLindgren> yeah Mp is mana points
<~Dan> You’re doing fine. 🙂
<+StedeLindgren> it’s the cost required to cast a spell
* ~Dan nods
<~Dan> How does spellcasting work?
<+StedeLindgren> if i were casting a fire frog that leaps to new targets in adjacet squares dealing sword damge. it would cost one attack action and 3mp
<~Dan> A fire frog?
<+StedeLindgren> some spells cost a move and attack action or multipule of each or even items
<+StedeLindgren> yeah just a random spell of of the hundreds
<~Dan> Cool. 🙂
<+StedeLindgren> it is a temperary elemental
<~Dan> Does casting require a roll?
<+StedeLindgren> not typically. but it does have to sucessfully hit like a weapon
<~Dan> How common is magic in this setting?
<+StedeLindgren> quite. an average charecter with average intelligence can cast 3 spells.
<+StedeLindgren> sorry can know 3 spells
<~Dan> So anyone can cast spells?
<+StedeLindgren> how many times he can cast is dependend on his level and mp
<+StedeLindgren> if they have learned them yes.
<+StedeLindgren> but spells is a broad term
<+StedeLindgren> shooting a array of arrows into a crowd is a spell
<+StedeLindgren> and cost mp. a barbarian shout that increases his allies strength is a spell
<+StedeLindgren> (done)
<~Dan> Are there spell lists for every class, then?
<+DLB_Chuck> Did I miss the chat?
<~Dan> (Howdy, DLB_Chuck!)
<~Dan> (Nope! Still in progress!)
<~Dan> ( StedeLindgren, meet DLB_Chuck, one of your fellow game authors. 🙂 )
<+JamesGillen> Well, that seems like mana is more like endurance
<+StedeLindgren> yes there is a spell list for every class. but there are no restrictions on class spells. so if you wanted you could learn barbarian shouts as an assassian, though it would likely be a poor route to go.
<+StedeLindgren> MP is very similar to Hp but they have diffrent roles.
<+StedeLindgren> Hp is your life pool. enemy attack damage is dealt to this number and when it hits 0 you are dead. as is common amoung these games
<+StedeLindgren> hi DLB Chuck
<+DLB_Chuck> Hi StedeLindgren
<~Dan> Since characters appear to be skill-based, what impact do classes have?
<+DLB_Chuck> Pardons for joining late so you may have already answered these questions
<+StedeLindgren> actually charecters are feat based.
<+StedeLindgren> a class gives you 2 feats a level.
<+DLB_Chuck> What are the key things that make your game not just different but better than other games? Why should people play it when they could play the other fantasy games out there?
<+StedeLindgren> it is more balnaced then most. also it has a bigger variety, in races, spells, and feats.
<+DLB_Chuck> Bigger variety than D&D considering all the supplements and variants?
<+StedeLindgren> yes, this game is 8 years in the running and has a number of people that have been working nonstop on it. DnD has about 3 main races to start and Queste has 100 basic races not to metion sub races.
<+DLB_Chuck> That’s a lot for sure
<+StedeLindgren> i know that sounds like talk, but it really is bigger then i can express
<+StedeLindgren> *30 main races
<+StedeLindgren> not 3 sorry
<+StedeLindgren> miss click
<+DLB_Chuck> Why make a standalone game with it’s own system instead of a supplement for D&D or Pathfinder?
<~Dan> Can you describe the cosmology of the setting?
<+StedeLindgren> becuase DnD wasn’t as balanced as i was hoping and so i had to start from scratch so i new each part would be fair mechanically and not just rely on story alone. though the story is the most important part.
<+StedeLindgren> the cosmology. is
<+StedeLindgren> a world called Adeltha
<+StedeLindgren> it has about 8 major contentets
<+StedeLindgren> created by 100 gods who fight for the throne as ruler of all gods. over the years
<+StedeLindgren> many gods have died
<+StedeLindgren> they use mortals as chess pieces in this confilct
<+StedeLindgren> until the mortals rebel
<+StedeLindgren> that time period is called the Divine Campagin
<+StedeLindgren> the players enter about 1,375 years after it;s end
<+StedeLindgren> one of the gods stole a the crystal that 12 gods are imprisoned within. he gave it to the mortals and thats how they are capable of magic
<+StedeLindgren> i’m sorry i’m not very good at summeries. so i’ll just stop there.
<+StedeLindgren> (done)
<+DLB_Chuck> Since the gods are ungodly (sorry, bad pun) powerful why don’t they just take the crystal back?
<+StedeLindgren> so they are not actually omnepotent, they see only out of the eyes and 5 senses of there followers
<+DLB_Chuck> What happens if they lose all their followers?
<+StedeLindgren> the gods powers increase and decrease based on there followers. thats why the god who is king of all gods would be so strong. becuase even the gods would follow him or her
<+DLB_Chuck> Cool. So if your sect rounded up and killed all the followers of another god, you would effectively destroy that god, right?
<~Dan> Who actually has the crystal with the 12 gods in it?
<+StedeLindgren> yes
<+StedeLindgren> there were 4 founders of magic. they were the ones who first found and studied the crystal. they soon decied it was too dangerous for the world little did they know its power had allready taken root. but one of them wanted it for himself after they sealed it back up.
<+StedeLindgren> the other 3 found out, traked him down to kill him.
<+StedeLindgren> he used a spell to seal up his soul into a crystal skull, (understandind the amount of enrgerycrystal can hold)
<+StedeLindgren> the 3 hide and protect the crystal to this day. they are known as the triad
<+StedeLindgren> it rarly rests in one location for more then 100 years
<+DLB_Chuck> Where is the crystal skull?
<+StedeLindgren> it is animated and seek to find the crystal again one day but first he nameds a suitable body. his name is Kaiphios.
<+StedeLindgren> it wanders the world with his followers
<+DLB_Chuck> What makes a body suitable?
<+StedeLindgren> over the centeries he has mastered a spell that transfers his soul into a living body. but he is looking for one that is perfect in all qualities and has not yet found it. his men have done aweful experiments tring to make him one out of the boides of strong heros and such
<+StedeLindgren> though he is just one enemy out of many others more and less powerful
<+StedeLindgren> the crystal was hid underneath a tree in the elven lands at one point and now the tree is big enough that the elves have built a city in it
<+StedeLindgren> but that was 2,341 years ago
<+StedeLindgren> yet the tree still lives
<+DLB_Chuck> Does the crystal get drained of energy as people use magic?
<+StedeLindgren> as does it’s citiy
<+StedeLindgren> no the gods are restored in power each day.
<+StedeLindgren> they gods were created by a more powerful entity called the Chivili
<+StedeLindgren> but he vanished shortly after teaching them how to act and use their powers
<+StedeLindgren> it is from him that the are restored
<+StedeLindgren> each day.
<~Dan> How common are monsters in this world?
<+StedeLindgren> almost everywhere in the wild. you have about a 1/4 chance to have an encounter if you are traveling for a day off a road.
<+DLB_Chuck> What kinds of monsters are there?
<+StedeLindgren> almost all that you would see in mediveil fantasy genere an a lot of new ones too. i will give you a few examples.
<+StedeLindgren> Kaigorga: a snail about the size of a mini van. it absourbs magical attacks and changes it’s mana type to the absorbed spell. then spams these out in powerful nonstop attacks. it desolves stone as it digs deep tunnels
<+StedeLindgren> an Ecidna: it looks like a 7 foot tall woman with a salamander head. it’s skin is silky black and it’s under belly and eyes glow yellow. from the waist down it has tenticles
<+StedeLindgren> it uses hormone magic
<+StedeLindgren> to lure in it’s foes to the swamp
<+StedeLindgren> once in her cutches she poisones them with a great high that numbs your senses
<+StedeLindgren> she then drages you down to an under water cave and puts you in a gel like sac glued to the wall.
<~Dan> Dare I ask why she does that?
<+StedeLindgren> she uses magic to turn you back into a embryo like state then from there into a new monster such as a manticore
<~Dan> Gross.
<+StedeLindgren> once chaged you serve her like one of her children
<+StedeLindgren> but the is no ryme or reason to the creature she chooses to turn you into only it needs to be strong and scary to protect her.
<~Dan> Does the game include dragons, and if so, what are they like?
<+StedeLindgren> yes it does
<+StedeLindgren> at about 610 D.D.C. they almost ruled the world. but they later were hunted to extinction when the gods gave a decree saying anyone who slayes an elder dragon will have it’s blood in their and will become royal with there families
<+StedeLindgren> there is a wide spectrum of dragons
<+StedeLindgren> some are smarter then people an can even talk while others are plain animals
<+StedeLindgren> there is lore for dragon riders as well
<+StedeLindgren> (done)
<~Dan> Do you offer any unique takes on the bog-standard D&D races, like Elves and Dwarves?
<+DLB_Chuck> When did the kickstarter go live?
<+StedeLindgren> there are a number of diffrent elves. like night elves, sky elves, jungle elves and so on. but each is very diffrent the only thing the have in common is pointed ears. and the fact that they all came under the elven treaty to defend against the dragons. they treaty is where their name came from. before they were elves they had other names.
<+StedeLindgren> 15 days ago
<+DLB_Chuck> Based on kickstarter trends, it doesn’t look like you’ll hit the target. Do you have a backup plan of what you’ll do if it doesn’t?
<+StedeLindgren> yeah i will likely have to relaunch. i am new to kickstarter and didn’t have everthing completely ready.
<+DLB_Chuck> What would you do differently?
<+StedeLindgren> well id din’t have a vidoe until just now. and i need more info up like the charecter sheet and things.
<+DLB_Chuck> You’ve got a lot more content on the campaign page than most RPG projects show already
<~Dan> In the time remaining, is there anything we haven’t covered that you’d like to bring up?
<+StedeLindgren> yeah i added that well after the launch sadly
<+StedeLindgren> i think that might be good. thaks for haveing me.
<+StedeLindgren> wow my spelling is poor haha
<~Dan> You’re very welcome, StedeLindgren!
<+DLB_Chuck> Good luck with it!
<~Dan> I hope you’ll come back any time you like!
<+StedeLindgren> take care! thanks agian
<~Dan> I’ll just remind folks that gratuities are welcome at (Link: https://gmshoe.wordpress.com/the-gmshoes-tip-jar/)https://gmshoe.wordpress.com/the-gmshoes-tip-jar/ 🙂
