[19:41] <+JohnPrescott> I’m John Prescott , President and creator of the Chronicles of Ramlar Role Playing game, I wear a bunch of different hats, and also serve as the Art Director. I’m also a published horror author, and dad! Our game is on Kickstarter with the option to get 3D STL files to print or have them printed for the game.
[19:41] <+JohnPrescott> done
[19:41] <+Hexjumper> Interesting! 🙂
[19:41] <~Dan> Thanks, JohnPrescott! The floor is open to questions!
[19:42] <~Dan> So what can you tell us about the setting of Chronicles of Ramlar?
[19:44] <+JohnPrescott> So, let’s see…our game give you the most freedom I think in the rpg industry…you actually can shape your characters future, with our Demeanor/Theme circles. If your character wants to be the hero of a certain town? he/she can strive to achieve that, want to be the land’s most respected dragon slayer? you can do that. All you do is mark it down on your
[19:44] <+JohnPrescott> character sheet and start role playing it to achieve your goals.
[19:45] <+Hexjumper> An aspiration – is there mechanical support for it?
[19:45] <+JohnPrescott> we even do experience that was as well, we call this wheel the Participation Wheel, so there is really no EXP points to add in at the end of a session etc.
[19:47] <+JohnPrescott> The game is percentile based and uses our own game engine that is loaded with some really neat mechanics. Sucess Value’s can play a big part, these are points you can get based on how well you roll, if you roll well you have bonus points to use for the next round to help yourself or give boons for the next round to your party actions.
[19:47] <+Hexjumper> How does the participation wheel work?
[19:49] <+Hexjumper> Hey, Barak!
[19:49] <~Dan> (Howdy, Barak!)
[19:49] <+Barak> Hey all!
[19:49] <+JohnPrescott> we have a section explaining how it works, everything is taken into account at the gaming table i.e. how well did you role play? what neat things did you do during the session? did you do something over the top and save your party? did you write a back story for your character after session 0 before playing?
[19:49] <+JohnPrescott> Hey Barak!
[19:50] <+brett> What is the objective or theme of the game? What would my character do?
[19:50] <+JohnPrescott> we also use a body hit diagram, which let’s you mix and match whatever type armor you wish…
[19:51] <+xyphoid> how do you handle that level of PC goal freedom at the table when you have a group of players?
[19:51] <+JohnPrescott> the main objective of the game is to have your name writtien in the Hethmarkn Book of histories, which are kept by a very secret set of dwarves hidden in a huge underground library…
[19:51] <+xyphoid> party-based structures often make doing chargen with wildly different goals have issues
[19:52] <+Barak> So, just like our goal in real-life! That is a very cool goal!
[19:52] <+JohnPrescott> it’s easy, most people dn’t have too big of aspirations…and as the GM you can easiliy work this in during your campaigns…as you stated this wouldn’t be good for a one shot…
[19:52] <~Dan> (Howdy, MonkofLords!)
[19:52] <+JohnPrescott> Hi there!
[19:53] <~Dan> JohnPrescott: What fantasy races are available to play?
[19:53] <+JohnPrescott> on our armor, say you wanted to wear plate on yoru shoulders, and just heavy studded leather on your legs and forearms. You can…and when you do that, it affects your defense and offense…
[19:54] <+Barak> The Warduke rule!
[19:55] <+JohnPrescott> the basics general fair and we have one of our own called the Spirinari, they are the oldest and the caretakers of the world so to speak…they are very tall and reserved. They make their own armor called Spirit Bone armor…they can shape this to whatever form they wish. On my kickstarter you can see their home city in a some pis I uploaded this weekend.
[19:55] <+JohnPrescott> (Link: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1206128347/whispering-tree-press-3d-printable-fantasy-miniatu?ref=user_menu)https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1206128347/whispering-tree-press-3d-printable-fantasy-miniatu?ref=user_menu
[19:56] <+JohnPrescott> We are also adding in a new race to play with out relaunch that will introduce a new shamanistic type magic to the game.
[19:56] <~Dan> As I mentioned previously, that’s some awesome art. 🙂
[19:56] <+JohnPrescott> Thanks, I do take pride in our art.
[19:57] <~Dan> (Howdy, Crazy-Cabal!)
[19:58] <+JohnPrescott> also, in our Kickstarter you can pledge a dollar and submit a monster for publication, if chosen you it will be illlustrated and added in our canon.
[19:58] <+JohnPrescott> Hi there
[19:58] <+Hexjumper> Interesting idea, but isn’t there a risk of somebody submitting a monster from somebody else’s IP?
[19:58] <+JohnPrescott> we’re also opening up a brand new continent to go and explore that was previously closed off
[19:59] <+JohnPrescott> yeah, it’s stated that it must be your own creation and from no where else.
[19:59] <+Hexjumper> Ah, I see.
[19:59] <+JohnPrescott> plus you get 32 pawns for a dollar as well for a buck. =)
[20:00] <~Dan> What variety of fantasy (high, low, dark, etc.) would you say Ramlar is?
[20:00] <+JohnPrescott> I would say med to high…
[20:00] <+JohnPrescott> well, it’s really a little of both..we have some truly unique monsters…and they are not push overs..
[20:01] <+JohnPrescott> you will earn the title after you defeat some of them.
[20:01] <~Dan> Well, let me put it another way: What can magic accomplish on the high end of the scale?
[20:02] <+JohnPrescott> but there is also was to create magic i.e. your own spells, you can affect them as well…make them permanent if you roll well enough..=)
[20:02] <~Dan> (wb, Josh1!)
[20:02] <~Dan> (Howdy, Doctor!)
[20:03] <+Hexjumper> Hello, Doctor!
[20:03] <+Doctor> (q&a?)
[20:03] <+JohnPrescott> that is really up to the GM…..if your GM will allow it and you can make the roll, bam..there ya go…that is not to say that you can create some world ending fireball though…
[20:03] <~Dan> (Yup!)
[20:03] <+JohnPrescott> Hi there!
[20:04] <~Dan> (Doctor: (Link: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1206128347/whispering-tree-press-3d-printable-fantasy-miniatu?ref=profile_created)https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1206128347/whispering-tree-press-3d-printable-fantasy-miniatu?ref=profile_created )
[20:04] <+JohnPrescott> but if you wanted to cure the land of a blight…..and make it so it will never come back…you can do that…just takes the time to figure the spell and create it….I.e. this could be one of your demeanor circles to pursue during your campaign!
[20:05] <+Barak> How many demeanor circles can a character have? And, can they be abandoned?
[20:05] <+JohnPrescott> our Elite paths work this way as well..you have to devote a Demeanor Theme to that path…..you just don’t level up and say…I’m a Beastmaster now…..there are set things you have to accomplish before you earn that title.
[20:06] <~Dan> (wb, brett)
[20:07] <+Hexjumper> Hello, Chuck.
[20:07] <~Dan> (Howdy, DLB_Chuck!0
[20:07] <~Dan> )
[20:07] <+JohnPrescott> there are 5 on the sheet…yes, they can be abandoned and replaced, and you can even use those points in a crisis situation on a roll, but if you use those D/Tpoints they are gone and you have to start over. We had a character use 9 of her points on a roll from her D/T circle. She lost them all but it saved her life at that moment and the parties.
[20:07] <+DLB_Chuck> hi dan
[20:07] <+JohnPrescott> hi Chuck!
[20:08] <+Barak> That sounds very cool!
[20:08] <+xyphoid> so your advancement points are also stay-alive points?
[20:08] <+JohnPrescott> it REALLY is…you shape your character how you want!
[20:08] <+JohnPrescott> they can be…they are really there as a last ditch effort, but they are there…for you to use.
[20:09] <+Barak> Are there tools for creating custom Elite Paths?
[20:09] <+JohnPrescott> yes, there will be in the relaunch
[20:10] <+JohnPrescott> but it wouldnt be that hard, it’s your and your friends game. So it’s up to the GM..really, we supply guidelines.
[20:10] <+Barak> Perfect!
[20:10] <+JohnPrescott> we didn’t want to restrict anyone or anybody.
[20:10] <~Dan> Do you have a character sheet posted that we can see?
[20:10] <+Hexjumper> So the game is being relaunched?
[20:10] <+JohnPrescott> you can also see one of our dark gods art in the Kickstarter..
[20:10] <+JohnPrescott> yes
[20:11] <~Dan> (Welcome to #rpgnet, Guest92!)
[20:11] <+JohnPrescott> Pillith the goddess of pain….she is a very uhmmmm mean individual…don’t want to mess with her….
[20:11] <+JohnPrescott> hi guest!
[20:11] <+JohnPrescott> Hi Az!
[20:11] <+Guest92> Hi. It’s Paul Mitchener here, at least briefly.
[20:11] <~Dan> (wb, Azander!)
[20:12] <~Dan> (Hey, Paul! You can set your name with the /nick command if you like; e.g., “/nick Paul” 🙂 )
[20:12] <~Dan> (Thanks!)
[20:13] <~Dan> (wb, brett!)
[20:14] <+JohnPrescott> oh Barak our D/T circles has 10 dots to fill…bascially it looks like a clock. once those dots are filled your theme is done, this holds true to your participation wheel, which grants you your levels…
[20:14] <+Doctor> When is the relaunch
[20:14] <+Doctor> ?
[20:14] <~Dan> (brb)
[20:14] <+Barak> that is a very interesting approach, I like it!
[20:15] <+JohnPrescott> We announced it during the Kickstarter..
[20:15] <+JohnPrescott> Thanks, Barak, once people play it they LOVE it.
[20:16] <+JohnPrescott> our game is really heavy on ‘role’ play side of things.
[20:16] <+DLB_Chuck> is there a second kickstarter for the RPG apart from the miniature one?
[20:16] <+Doctor> What’s the elevator pitch for the game, I’ll come back to the minis
[20:16] <+JohnPrescott> no, it’s all wrapped into one.
[20:17] <~Dan> (Howdy, jcfiala!)
[20:17] <+DLB_Chuck> how’s the kickstarter doing?
[20:20] <+JohnPrescott> A game that gives you the most freedom in the industry to date, with a plethora of locales, guilds, dark places, and new mechanics all while striving to have your name immortalized in the world’s book of histories.
[20:20] <~Dan> JohnPrescott: Sorry, did you post the link to the character sheet?
[20:21] <+JohnPrescott> It’s slow right now, Chuck, but a big push will be starting this week and it will pick up I’m almost certain.
[20:21] <+JohnPrescott> no, I haven’t
[20:21] <+DLB_Chuck> what’s the push?
[20:22] <+Doctor> I’m confused. Is the KS for the game or the minis or both? If both, why isn’t the game at the lead?
[20:22] <+JohnPrescott> Kudo3D will be blasting it over their connections this week, doing a sample print of one of our mini’s off their new Bean, they’ve done really well with it on KS, some heavy advertising from some blog pusher and funding teams.
[20:23] <+JohnPrescott> it’s both, Doc.
[20:23] <+JohnPrescott> we originally wanted just to do the mini’s.
[20:23] <+DLB_Chuck> I hope it helps. If it doesn’t get to where you want it, Do you have a backup plan to do just the RPG?
[20:23] <+JohnPrescott> 3D is taking off big time
[20:23] <+JohnPrescott> yes, we do.
[20:23] <+JohnPrescott> it will just take a little longer to get it out.
[20:24] <+DLB_Chuck> The number of people with a 3d printer is still tiny. Cool angle but consider it’s a small audience and you want a very small subsegment of it (gamers), I think you’ve got your work cut out. Looks way cool but still a hard sell I fear.
[20:25] <+Hexjumper> Would you need a high quality 3D printer to do these? I’ve seen miniatures printed out with 3D printers, but they were pretty grainy…
[20:25] <+JohnPrescott> yeah, we knew that going in…but there is plenty of places to get your mini printed now. =)
[20:26] <+JohnPrescott> yes, an SLA printer.
[20:26] <+JohnPrescott> but you can get one of these for about 500 now days. =)
[20:26] <+JohnPrescott> and that will continue to just drop as all tech does.
[20:26] <+JohnPrescott> (Link: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/bean-the-ultimate-consumer-sla-3d-printer#/)https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/bean-the-ultimate-consumer-sla-3d-printer#/
[20:27] <+JohnPrescott> if you look on the KS page, the dwarf cost me .50 to print.,
[20:27] <~Dan> What elements make up a character? Is this an attribute + skill system, for example?
[20:28] <+Doctor> Gamers aren’t known for their expendable income. I’ve been fortunate to be able to devote time and money to my hobby and gotten a bit back, but even I would balk at $500 for a printer. Are the national chains able to print these?
[20:28] <+JohnPrescott> yes, attributes Dan, and we do have skills as well.
[20:28] <~Dan> How do the two interact?
[20:29] <+DLB_Chuck> Doctor, I don’t know that I’d agree. The cost of RPG books is really up there and the gamer community buys them.
[20:29] <+JohnPrescott> yes, they are starting to pop up as well. Plus, we know several people who can print these if people ask.
[20:30] <+Doctor> DLB Chuck: Mostly on Pdf, and the proportion of books pirated to books sold is astronomical. Still, I’ll table that for the moment.
[20:30] <+JohnPrescott> we even ahave pledg level to buy a printing lisc for year to print and sell these
[20:30] <+DLB_Chuck> I don’t honestly know if many people are willing to fool with trying to print their own minis though. People buy the printed games because they don’t want to print and punch the PDFs. I don’t know it would be that different for minis
[20:30] <+DLB_Chuck> the best selling game products are still printed D&D and they’re some of the more pricey ones
[20:31] <+JohnPrescott> yeah, DnD is on fire…
[20:31] <+JohnPrescott> and they are pricey!
[20:32] <+Doctor> In large part because 5e is one of the best designed games in a long time. Again, I’ll table it, but “X is doing well” isn’t a way to refute “most others aren’t”
[20:32] <+Doctor> So sell me on the minis. What makes them worth the extra steps?
[20:32] <+JohnPrescott> right.
[20:34] <~Dan> Can you describe the game’s resolution mechanic?
[20:34] <+JohnPrescott> they are unique, high resolution, and can compete with anything in the market place today. Once you get the printer, there are a ton of others you can print for yourself if you go that route and get a printer.
[20:34] <+JohnPrescott> It’s percentile based, whre you have to roll under your target number.
[20:35] <+JohnPrescott> roll over and it’a botch/fail
[20:35] <~Dan> How do attributes and skills relate to that roll?
[20:36] <+JohnPrescott> your main attributes figure in on your attacks, defense, ability to cast magic, and even down to how well you are as a rogue.
[20:36] <+JohnPrescott> Hey Dan, i need a quick 5 min afk..coughing fit…
[20:36] <~Dan> No problem!
[20:36] <+JohnPrescott> that ok?
[20:37] <~Dan> While we’re waiting, I’ll just mention that those wishing to support my Q&As and reviews can do so at (Link: https://gmshoe.wordpress.com/the-gmshoes-tip-jar/)https://gmshoe.wordpress.com/the-gmshoes-tip-jar/ 🙂
[20:38] <~Dan> (wb, Hexjumper!)
[20:44] <+Hexjumper> Thanks.
[20:44] <~Dan> (Hexjumper: We have a brief pause going while our guest addresses a coughing fit.)
[20:45] <+JohnPrescott> back sorry!
[20:45] <~Dan> No problem! All better?
[20:45] <+JohnPrescott> this weather takes some getting use to!
[20:45] <+JohnPrescott> yep
[20:45] <~Dan> Good!
[20:45] <+JohnPrescott> 65 during the day 28 at nght…jeesh!
[20:45] <+Doctor> Southwest
[20:45] <+Doctor> ?
[20:46] <+JohnPrescott> Tennessee
[20:46] <+JohnPrescott> west between Memphis and Nashville
[20:46] <+Doctor> Yep, the South in general has been weird.
[20:46] <~Dan> JohnPrescott: What are the attributes, and how broad are the skills?
[20:46] <+JohnPrescott> doesn’t help we have a 25 mph winds right now….
[20:46] <+JohnPrescott> yeah, ti has!
[20:47] <+Doctor> Anyway, so for people who don’t have your game, are there perks beyond the minis themselves?
[20:47] <+DLB_Chuck> JohnPrescott: what part of TN?
[20:48] <+JohnPrescott> they skills are very broad, Dan, and the Attributes are pretty general..Strenghth, Tenacity, Intelligence, etc..
[20:48] <+JohnPrescott> Jackson, where I work and I live in Humboldt.
[20:48] <~Dan> Can you give us an overview of combat?
[20:49] <+JohnPrescott> as far as perks, Doc, what exactly do you mean? if they buy the mini’s or the game itself…
[20:50] <+Doctor> The minis. Is there a file that describes the creature or something similar?
[20:50] <+JohnPrescott> combat can be very tatical…if you want it to be..what our hit locations, it can be quite detailed…if you want it to be…there are three modes of game play, hard core, generic, and I guess what you would call high fantasy..
[20:51] <+JohnPrescott> oh yes, you will get a pdf of each monster and their stats, for our game, dnd5e, and pathfinder.
[20:52] <+DLB_Chuck> JohnPrescott: i’ve been through jackson but just on the way to memphis. live in KY but lived in TN a few times and visit often
[20:52] <+Doctor> That’s a good value add, that makes it more attractive
[20:52] <+JohnPrescott> ah,cook, Chuck!
[20:53] <+JohnPrescott> also, if we get funded the 32 PAWNS for a dollar gets turned into 64,as we are going to do pawns from the STL files as well.
[20:53] <~Dan> JohnPrescott: Do I recall correctly that this is a class/level system?
[20:53] <+JohnPrescott> yes
[20:53] <+JohnPrescott> yes, Dan.
[20:53] <~Dan> How many classes are there?
[20:54] <+JohnPrescott> 5
[20:54] <~Dan> What are they?
[20:55] <+JohnPrescott> Warrior, Rouge, Wizard, Sevar(cleric), Merthwarg(druid)
[20:55] <+JohnPrescott> btw, Doc. I love it up here in TN..it’s very nice.
[20:55] <+JohnPrescott> Rogue..sorry…
[20:55] <+JohnPrescott> sill fingers…
[20:55] <+JohnPrescott> silly
[20:55] <~Dan> Heh. 🙂
[20:56] <~Dan> Do you allow for multi-classing?
[20:56] <+JohnPrescott> yes, if you want to go that route.
[20:57] <+Barak> how do the cleric and druid differ?
[20:57] <+JohnPrescott> but we’ve never seen a person do it yet, that is because the time it takes to get there…remember you aren’t just going to say…I’m going to multi-class and bam there you go…you will have to set a D/T circle to it.
[20:57] <+DLB_Chuck> JohnPrescott: yes it’s a nice area. i spent my last birthday in nashville. live in Lexington now. Jackson’s a good size and close enough to Nash/Memphis to go when you want but nice to not deal with the traffic if you don’t want to go
[20:58] <+JohnPrescott> exactly, Chuck!
[20:59] <+CJCarella> (I love the patented Dan grilling 🙂 )
[20:59] <~Dan> ( 😀 )
[21:00] <+JohnPrescott> the cleric can get very mean if they want too. the druids get the magic from nature, you don’t run into many druids in towns, they stick to the forests and are mostly worn and rough around the edges…our clerics are proud and display their chosen gods with pride and aren’t afraid to tell you about it.
[21:01] <~Dan> How does spellcasting work?
[21:01] <+Barak> NIce!
[21:02] <+JohnPrescott> each spell has a contact number you have to reach in order to succefully cast it…there are lines of magic running throughout the world…when you roll you are rolling to contact those lines of magic that enables you to cast your spell.
[21:02] <~Dan> Are there any limits to spellcasting, like magic points?
[21:02] <~Dan> Or spells per day?
[21:02] <+JohnPrescott> both good lines and bad lines which in turn turns the world gray…
[21:04] <+JohnPrescott> you have mana points…and once they are depleted you have to rest
[21:04] <+JohnPrescott> or replenish them….
[21:04] * ~Dan nods
[21:04] <~Dan> (wb, Josh1)
[21:04] <+JohnPrescott> so if you have the points to spend you can cast that spell…
[21:04] <+Josh1> Srry wrong button
[21:04] <+JohnPrescott> even if it’s a high level spell
[21:06] <+JohnPrescott> there are so many aspects in this game it’s hard to just try and focus on one…lol…if you can understand that?
[21:06] <~Dan> Sure. 🙂
[21:06] <+JohnPrescott> and of course story telling is up front as well..
[21:06] <~Dan> How so?
[21:08] <+JohnPrescott> it’s all about your characters journey…where does he or she want to go? what does she want to do? Do you want to become a Sky Knight in the city of Aurod? a planeswalker making your living selling travel to those who want to traverse the deadly planes of light and darkness or do you want to own your own land and become a world renown power in the world?
[21:08] <+JohnPrescott> all of these and more can be done…it’s your characters story…
[21:09] <~Dan> Do you use alignments?
[21:10] <+JohnPrescott> very little…you are either good, bad or neutral…we didn’t want to get into that big ball of spaghetti with our game….
[21:10] * ~Dan nods
[21:11] <~Dan> How much of a bestiary do you include?
[21:11] <+DLB_Chuck> obligatory bestiary question 😉
[21:11] <+JohnPrescott> we have over 400 monsters to date.. and a hefty amount of them will be included in the relaunch.
[21:12] <+DLB_Chuck> Awesome!
[21:12] * ~Dan chuckles re: obligatory 😉
[21:12] <~Dan> Do you offer any unusual twists on the fantasy classics?
[21:12] <+JohnPrescott> we have some of hte standard fair, but most of our lil nasties are very unique or some I’m told all the time. =)
[21:13] <+JohnPrescott> not really..Dan, we just make up our own. .
[21:14] <+JohnPrescott> you can see some of these in the monster packet on the KS page.
[21:14] <~Dan> What are your dragons like?
[21:14] <+JohnPrescott> they are more creature based than your standard fare…
[21:15] <+JohnPrescott> they can’t talk as in human speech but they have their own language to communicate with each other..some people can learn this language and no when to stay away….
[21:15] <+JohnPrescott> they are also not color coded….
[21:16] <+JohnPrescott> they can be any color….what sets them apart from good or bad is their facial markings and horn configurations….good dragons have gold around their facial markings..bad are black facial markings…there are good and bad dragons though… and some that are neutral…
[21:17] <+JohnPrescott> and you WILL remember a fight with one of our dragons….eheh..it’s not a task taken lightly
[21:17] <~Dan> Do they have variable breath weapons?
[21:17] <+JohnPrescott> no, all fire
[21:17] * ~Dan nods
[21:18] <+JohnPrescott> we even have trap door type dragon….which is VERY nasty….
[21:18] <+Barak> what distinguishes the good from bad, is one type of dragon good and one type bad, or is it a crap shoot? if they are super powerful, is there a reason they don’t rule the world?
[21:18] <+JohnPrescott> like the trap door spider…
[21:19] <+Barak> rather, are the good one species and the bad one species?
[21:19] <+JohnPrescott> the good one’s will aid humans if the need warrants it…the bad as just plain mean so to speak….they really aren’t super powerful….they are threat if confronted or endangered…
[21:19] <+JohnPrescott> yes, they are species…
[21:20] <+JohnPrescott> they are respected but not really revered you could say
[21:21] <+JohnPrescott> let’s also not forget about our God of Beasts, Vrang….he’s a threat to the real world at ALL times….
[21:21] <~Dan> Yes, regarding the cosmology, how active are the gods in everyday life?
[21:21] <+JohnPrescott> he is a dark god and it always trying to penetrate the physical world in which you mainly play in…
[21:23] <+JohnPrescott> if he does, his realm spill over into Eranon(main world) and starts spreading…at a rapid pace….if not stopped…his denizens will come through as well..and then all sorts of bad stuff starts happening….this is how Isidria’s magical barriers gets broken…and let’s another God into the world and he rampages the land…
[21:23] <+JohnPrescott> they are very active….
