[19:03] <+CraigSam> Hello everyone, I’m Craig Gladden. I’m the creator of Samyaza: A cyber-fantasy. Today I have my good friend Mark and Bre with me to answer questions.
[19:05] <+MarkSam> Hello All, My Name is Mark and I am the Design and Marketing Director for Samyaza, Cyber-Fantasy RPG
[19:07] <~Dan> (Welcome to #rpgnet, BreeLynnSAM!)
[19:07] <+CraigSam> And there is our third musketeer.
[19:07] <+BreeLynnSAM> Oh thank the gods I made it in, sorry I’m late everyone. I’m BreeLynn Lake, how’s everyone doing?
[19:08] <~Dan> Doing fine, thanks. Just doing introductions. 🙂
[19:08] <+CraigSam> From all of us we wanted to thank you for having us Dan, it means a great deal.
[19:09] <+BreeLynnSAM> Yeah, this is an amazing opportunity, we can’t thank you enough.
[19:09] <+MarkSam> Yes indeed, thank you for the opportunity to share our game!
[19:09] <~Dan> You’re very welcome!
[19:10] <+CraigSam> We are ready when you are.
[19:10] <~Dan> Okay! The floor is open to questions!
[19:10] <~Dan> Let’s start with the basics… What is the game’s premise?
[19:12] <+CraigSam> Well but very simply. The premise is, a setting that is easy to interact with. A system that is even easier.
[19:13] <~Dan> Really? The setting seems pretty esoteric on the face of it.
[19:13] <+CraigSam> The setting uses mutilple genres to allow the maximum amount of official material. Allowing everyone’s Samyaza to make sense in the overall world.
[19:15] <~Dan> What genres does it incorporate?
[19:17] <+CraigSam> Science Fiction, fantasy, horror, really anything. We have played even sicence fiction western.
[19:18] <~Dan> Really? How does the setting accomplish that?
[19:18] <~Dan> (btw: We have storms moving in, so if I suddenly vanish, that’s probably why.)
[19:18] <~Dan> (Howdy, Ampersand!)
[19:19] <+CraigSam> By building a large time line. I will go into detail about this.
[19:19] <+CraigSam> And different environments.
[19:22] <~Dan> Can you describe the timeline?
[19:22] <+CraigSam> The time line allows players to go and build campaigns that match whenever they like. If they want western, we have done it and there are resources for that. Well what if they want to do underwater adventure, like Atlantis there is stuff for that. By building a large net that can encompass all genres and times.
[19:23] <+BreeLynnSAM> I think they want to know more about our Timeline, about the Samyaza setting itself.
[19:23] * ~Dan nods
[19:24] <~Dan> (brb — please continue)
[19:25] <+CraigSam> We have build our history on what we all know.
[19:25] <+CraigSam> Or at least one interpretation of it.
[19:26] <+CraigSam> And we took that common understanding and started to change it. I as a writer am heavily influenced my biblical lore. So we borrow some of that?
[19:27] <~Dan> (back)
[19:27] <~Dan> Is there a default setting/time?
[19:28] <+CraigSam> no, I find it easy to compare to American Horror Story.
[19:28] <~Dan> Ah! I see…
[19:29] <+BreeLynnSAM> Oh gosh, you should have heard it the first time I did. It was amazing, hearing all the details, but we never stuck with one set timeline, poor craig was jumping all over the place. For a while I was asking questions all the time.
[19:29] <+CraigSam> Where all of the season are self contained but have the same cast.
[19:29] <~Dan> For some reason, I was thinking that the game focused on cyberpunk.
[19:30] <+BreeLynnSAM> What he said makes it sound like it’s religion based, and it’s really not.
[19:30] <+CraigSam> it does at times, because I love the cyberpunk genre. But as a Roleplaying game I feel like it’s silly to stick yourself to one type of story telling.
[19:30] * ~Dan nods
[19:30] <~Dan> To what does the name refer?
[19:31] <+CraigSam> There is technology and stories about mega corporations trying to keep humanity down. But what if that mega corp was controlled by a much larger being?
[19:32] <+CraigSam> The name Samyaza refers to a story told on the Dead Sea scrolls.
[19:32] <+CraigSam> In the book of Enoch, the story tells of angels that fall from heaven and teach humanity forbidden knowledge.
[19:33] <+CraigSam> How to read the stars, flight, chemistry, science in general.
[19:33] <+BreeLynnSAM> Which in our timeline, actually does come about, but in a slightly different way.
[19:34] <+CraigSam> Samyaza is the leader of those angels that taught humanity.
[19:34] <+MarkSam> It is Cyberpunk at heart with tones of fantasy, biblical and mythical lore with a splash of magic through technology.
[19:35] <+CraigSam> Haha you may have to stop us Dan.
[19:35] <~Dan> (Howdy, EggEmbry!)
[19:35] <~Dan> (Topic: (Link: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/samyaza/samyaza-a-cyber-fantasy)https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/samyaza/samyaza-a-cyber-fantasy )
[19:35] <~Dan> CraigSam: Not at all! This is good stuff.
[19:35] <~Dan> (Howdy, SirGene!)
[19:35] <~Dan> (Topic: (Link: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/samyaza/samyaza-a-cyber-fantasy)https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/samyaza/samyaza-a-cyber-fantasy )
[19:35] <+EggEmbry> Howdy, Dan, all. And thanks for the link.
[19:36] <+CraigSam> I hope I answered your question.
[19:36] <~Dan> To some extent, yup. You raise more, though. 🙂
[19:37] <+BreeLynnSAM> Well ask away so we can answer away.
[19:37] <~Dan> For example: Is the magic “real”, or is it “sufficiently advanced” science?
[19:37] <+CraigSam> Every story does. Feel free to ask.
[19:37] <+MarkSam> A highly detailed description can be found on the Kickstarter page, so thank you for sharing that page!
[19:37] <~Dan> Certainly. 🙂
[19:37] <+CraigSam> Both
[19:38] <~Dan> Oh? Do tell. 🙂
[19:38] <+CraigSam> Humanity hasn’t been taught how to use certain types of magic. And those that weren’t taught, were taught to catch up. They did what humanity does best.
[19:39] <+CraigSam> They built machines that allowed them to do things that would be considered magic. Flight, throwing bolts of lightning, etc.
[19:40] <+BreeLynnSAM> There are both. It doesn’t just show in our timeline either. But also in our gameplay. Extremely advanced technology that borders on magic, such as with the Net-Runner class, and their having the ability to pull weapons, armor and tech from the net.
[19:40] <+CraigSam> What if Zeus didn’t throw lightning, but just had a stun gun or a advanced piece of tech that allowed him to arc lightning. Those are the kind of stories we want to introduce.
[19:40] <+CraigSam> That’s a great example Brelynnsam.
[19:41] <~Dan> So what can “real” magic do in the setting?
[19:41] <+BreeLynnSAM> A lot of “magic” is most definitely technology based. But it seems to give tech an added boost to do things above and beyond the norm.
[19:42] <+CraigSam> Interact with more magical beings. Anyone can use magic, but it’s the understanding that means something.
[19:43] <+MarkSam> And as with all Cyberpunk genre games, Information is Key!
[19:44] <+MarkSam> information = knowledge and power
[19:44] <+CraigSam> yes, the understanding of real magic allows a player to use it without preparation. Imagine having a scroll with a magical spell on it. You can read it and use it. But a person that understands it can just use it without reading or using the scroll.
[19:44] <~Dan> So in lower-tech versions of the setting, does super-technology masquerade as magic?
[19:45] <+CraigSam> Yes
[19:45] <+BreeLynnSAM> That would be completely up to the GM or as we call them, Directors. But yes, that is definitely something that happens.
[19:45] <~Dan> CraigSam: The difference between being able to use a computer and to build a computer?
[19:45] <+CraigSam> That’s a great example.
[19:45] * ~Dan bows
[19:46] <+CraigSam> Knowledge allows freedom.
[19:47] <~Dan> Are the PCs all human?
[19:48] <+BreeLynnSAM> Forms of humanity, yes.
[19:48] <+CraigSam> Yes
[19:48] <~Dan> When you say “forms”, are we talking transhumanism?
[19:49] <+BreeLynnSAM> There is the typical human, the Cyborg, Automaton, Nomad and the Unbound.
[19:49] <~Dan> What are the latter three?
[19:49] <+BreeLynnSAM> I guess you could say their are different levels to their humanism.
[19:50] <+BreeLynnSAM> The Automaton is a sentient AI, the Nomad is an Amazonian road warrior, and the Unbound is a human who has died and brought back to life.
[19:52] <~Dan> Amazonian in what context? From the Amazon, or super-women? 🙂
[19:53] <+BreeLynnSAM> No, not from the Amazon. They were genetically mutated by a corporate experiment =)
[19:53] <~Dan> So all women?
[19:54] <+CraigSam> Sorry crash
[19:54] <~Dan> (wb, CraigSam!)
[19:54] <+CraigSam> I’m back
[19:54] <~Dan> (Howdy, MonkofLords!)
[19:54] <+BreeLynnSAM> Yes, all women.
[19:54] <+BreeLynnSAM> It always makes me think of Shaq as a woman trying to get into his car and realizing that his seat doesn’t go back far enough.
[19:55] * ~Dan chuckles
[19:55] <~Dan> So it sounds like anything more than human is limited to the scifi aspects of the setting’s time line.
[19:57] <+CraigSam> Yes but we try not to limit it.
[19:57] <~Dan> How so?
[19:57] <~Dan> (brb)
[19:59] <+CraigSam> There are alien races but for playable we wanted to start small
[20:00] <~Dan> (Howdy, Will!)
[20:00] <+Will> (waves)
[20:00] <+MarkSam> We try to let everyone do what they want, be what they want, our “GM” is more of a director, directing actors, “the players” in a TV Show with episodes
[20:00] <~Dan> (Topic: (Link: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/samyaza/samyaza-a-cyber-fantasy)https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/samyaza/samyaza-a-cyber-fantasy )
[20:00] <+BreeLynnSAM> At the moment, for this setting itself, we wanted to stick with humanity to be able to show the multiple varied choices that humanity might make during a time like this.
[20:00] <~Dan> What can you tell us about the aliens?
[20:02] <+CraigSam> We have “alien” things like angels, demon, and even larger mechine beings are aliens.
[20:02] <+CraigSam> So a player given the right things could be born of these beings
[20:03] <+MarkSam> Yeah without spoiling anything, that is a good example
[20:04] <+BreeLynnSAM> There is a lot to explain, because Craig has made a huge universe that we really talk very little about so far.
[20:05] <~Dan> I know! Seems like every question stirs up a hornet’s nest of more questions. 🙂
[20:06] <+BreeLynnSAM> But, there are 4 races before humanity is found. They were created as a sort of game amongst greater beings.
[20:06] <+MarkSam> that means you are intriuged
[20:06] <~Dan> I am!
[20:06] <+BreeLynnSAM> My bad, 3 mistype on my part.
[20:06] <~Dan> How big is the rulebook, anyway?
[20:07] <~Dan> Oh, and speaking of the rulebook, how are you guys set for art?
[20:07] <~Dan> Because Will over there is an awesome RPG artist.
[20:07] <+BreeLynnSAM> There are Angels, Demons and Machines. These machines are VERY different from the Automatons that you can currently choose as a race to play.
[20:07] <~Dan> Are the Angels and Demons literal angels and demons, or are they alien races?
[20:08] <+BreeLynnSAM> Oh really? Well, we are always looking for artists. They aren’t a prevalent as one would think.
[20:08] * +Will works fast and well. 😉
[20:08] <+MarkSam> indeed
[20:09] <+CraigSam> They are aliens races, but they are still somewhat traditional.
[20:09] <~Dan> Yeah, we have some “resident” game authors here who can vouch for his work.
[20:09] <+Will> ( (Link: http://willbear.deviantart.com/gallery/57434107/Portfolio)http://willbear.deviantart.com/gallery/57434107/Portfolio and won’t derail too much. 😉
[20:09] <~Dan> CraigSam: Traditional in what sense? Like the Grays?
[20:10] <+MarkSam> that is great!
[20:10] <+BreeLynnSAM> I pulled your link for us to take a look at and we will let you know. But let’s do that another time ❤
[20:11] <+CraigSam> Well they are angels, wings, messenger of a god.
[20:12] <~Dan> So they really are supernatural beings?
[20:12] <+BreeLynnSAM> A sibling trio created these three races and each wanted different things for them. In the case of the Angels, their creator left out emotions. They are, not cold as you would typically describe them, but they don’t understand or know emotion at all.
[20:12] <~Dan> (Howdy, Lin_Chong!)
[20:12] <+CraigSam> yes
[20:12] <~Dan> What’s the story with the Demons?
[20:13] <+BreeLynnSAM> In the case of Demons, they are the opposite. They run hot, they can almost spontaneously combust with their emotions. They can hold relationships and know what a relationship is, but their own emotions can be detrimental.
[20:15] <+BreeLynnSAM> As for the machines. They are what you think a robot is. They are analytical. They don’t have emotions. They are gears and cogs. But all three races are beautiful in their own way.
[20:16] * ~Dan nods
[20:16] <~Dan> How do they interact with humans?
[20:17] <+BreeLynnSAM> Brilliance, the creator of the Angels, grew tired of the game because he was not always creating the best and most amazing creation. Whenever they returned to one another and basically gave one another a report card, he would not always come out on top.
[20:18] <+BreeLynnSAM> He eventually threw a temper tantrum and ran off wanting find a corner or creation to start over.
[20:18] <+BreeLynnSAM> of*
[20:19] <+BreeLynnSAM> As he was wandering, he found this planet that was just thriving. These unknown creatures were living happy, flourishing lives. But, he had never heard of them. His siblings never claimed them as their own creations.
[20:20] <+BreeLynnSAM> So he ran back and called foul. Basically saying they were cheating. But found that none of them had created these creatures.
[20:20] <+BreeLynnSAM> And that’s how Brilliance found humanity.
[20:21] <~Dan> Cool. 🙂
[20:21] <+BreeLynnSAM> That’s also how humanity found “God”.
[20:21] <~Dan> So let’s turn to the mechanics… Do you happen to have a character sheet that we can see?
[20:21] <+BreeLynnSAM> Yes, let me grab a link for you.
[20:22] <+MarkSam> The sheets are Beat but I believe Bree has them 🙂

[20:22] <+BreeLynnSAM> Let me know if those links work or if they don’t so I can get something to work.
[20:23] <+MarkSam> Beta*
[20:23] <~Dan> They work. 🙂
[20:23] <+BreeLynnSAM> If not, (Link: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/samyaza/samyaza-a-cyber-fantasy/posts/1923212)https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/samyaza/samyaza-a-cyber-fantasy/posts/1923212 , here is a link to the update where we give out the Character Sheets. You can see full images of them there.
[20:24] <~Dan> Is this an attribute + skill system?
[20:25] <+MarkSam> Yes
[20:25] <~Dan> What is the attribute scale for humans?
[20:26] <~Dan> (Howdy, BPIJonathan!)
[20:26] <~Dan> (BPIJonathan here is one of our game author “regulars”. 🙂 )
[20:26] <+BreeLynnSAM> Hey BPIJonathan
[20:26] <+MarkSam> (Welcome)
[20:27] <+BPIJonathan> Hi BreeLynnSAM.
[20:27] <+MarkSam> I wil have Craig take that question Dan
[20:30] <+CraigSam> Yes
[20:30] <+CraigSam> We have nine stats
[20:33] <+BreeLynnSAM> I think he’s going in and out. I’m sorry.
[20:33] <+MarkSam> (Sorry give him a minute he is having an issue)
[20:33] <~Dan> (No worries.)
[20:34] <+CraigSam> Our formula is stat + skill
[20:34] <+CraigSam> Sorry
[20:34] <+CraigSam> I’m back
[20:34] <~Dan> That’s okay!
[20:34] <~Dan> What is the human attribute scale?
[20:35] <+CraigSam> Scale how so?
[20:35] <+BreeLynnSAM> What are the benefits and drawback to being a human?
[20:35] <+CraigSam> Oh
[20:36] <+BreeLynnSAM> How do the attributes scales to show this?
[20:36] <+CraigSam> Well being in a world where your neighbor is more machine the human how are you going interact with them.
[20:37] <~Dan> Well, I mean, is the human scale 1-10, for example?
[20:37] <+CraigSam> Oh I’m sorry
[20:38] <+CraigSam> Races don’t have powe scales. More they each have a uni
[20:38] <+CraigSam> Unique starting area and more abilities
[20:38] <~Dan> (wb, Drew)
[20:39] <~Dan> What dice do you use, and how do you use them?
[20:40] <+CraigSam> so humans because they are human. They start with more social traits and more an ability to make things.
[20:40] <+CraigSam> We the standard poly set of dice
[20:40] <+CraigSam> D4 – D20
[20:40] <+CraigSam> With the main action dice being the D10
[20:42] <~Dan> Is it a single d10 + attribute + skill?
[20:43] <+BreeLynnSAM> nod
[20:43] <+CraigSam> Yes
[20:43] <~Dan> And what are the other dice used for? Damage?
[20:46] <+CraigSam> Thru could be yes
[20:46] <+CraigSam> They*
[20:46] <+CraigSam> I was trying to find a ref for you.
[20:47] <+CraigSam> We have a scale chart that uses the dice
[20:47] <+CraigSam> To craft weapons
[20:51] <~Dan> Gotcha.
[20:52] <~Dan> Well, I feel as though we spent so much time on the setting that we’re not going to be able to do the system justice tonight, folks — at least, not in what remains of “regular time”.
[20:52] <~Dan> In the time remaining, are there any major points we haven’t covered that you’d like to bring up?
[20:52] <+CraigSam> I’m here all the time and feel free to ask our Facebook
[20:52] <+CraigSam> Or KS
[20:54] <+CraigSam> No I think we covered most of it. As you said there are so many things for the system we haven’t hit yet
[20:54] <+CraigSam> We do have some videos on our Facebook that may help.
[20:54] <+BreeLynnSAM> I’m on all the time to answer questions. So feel free to blow us up with questions. I’ll be sure to do an update with more information regarding our actual gameplay and dice and what’s used for what so that it doesn’t get left out. So be sure to check for that on the Kickstarter.
[20:55] <~Dan> Also, like CraigSam, all of you are welcome to come by and hang out with us any time you like. 🙂
[20:55] <+CraigSam> Thank you Dan!
[20:56] <+BreeLynnSAM> Thanks so much for this Q&A Dan it’s been really amazing.
[20:56] <~Dan> You’re very welcome!
[20:56] <+CraigSam> Did anyone have any other questions?
[20:56] <~Dan> Standard reminder to readers: My tip jar is at (Link: https://gmshoe.wordpress.com/the-gmshoes-tip-jar/)https://gmshoe.wordpress.com/the-gmshoes-tip-jar/ , for those feeling generous. 🙂
[20:57] <~Dan> You guys are free to hang out with us and answer questions as long as you like. I’m just going to pause to log the chat and get you the link. 🙂
[20:57] <+CraigSam> Great we are here
[20:57] <+MarkSam> Thank you guys!
