[14:35] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> well I’m Giovanni, I live in milan, I’m a father of three children and since yesterday I’m officially a game designer 😉 shintiara got 100% funded!
[14:36] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> Shintiara “Adventures on the Event Horizon” is a roleplaying tabletop game that uses a setting I developed in over 20 years
[14:37] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> the setting is a fantasy and scifi mashup in a world where Time is broken and magic blends with technology due to Time paradoxes
[14:41] <~Dan> (Just a reminder to give us a (done) when you’re ready for questions. 🙂 )
[14:43] <~Dan> (Welcome to #rpgnet, Guest68!)
[14:44] <+Guest68> Hi!
[14:45] <~Dan> ( Guest68: You can set your name with the /nick command; e.g., /nick Dan 🙂 )
[14:45] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> (done)
[14:45] <~Dan> Thanks, Giovanni-Shintiara! The floor is open to questions!
[14:45] <~Dan> What sort of system does the game use?
[14:45] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> Hi!
[14:47] <&Beelzedude> (I wanted to back the game, but didn’t have any money to spare. :D)
[14:48] <~Dan> (Thanks, Marco! Here for the Q&A? 🙂 )
[14:48] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> in terms of rules, Shintiara is a very particular d100 roll under system: the Modern d100
[14:49] <~Dan> How does that work?
[14:49] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> Hi Marco! Marco is one of the shintiara’s co-authors
[14:50] <~Dan> Oh, great! Nice to meet you, Marco!
[14:50] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> In shintiara every character only has one percentage as reference point: Inner Strength. the rest of the game provide advantages and disadvantages to that %
[14:51] <~Dan> Huh. That’s an interesting approach.
[14:52] <~Dan> Do you have a character sheet posted that we can see?
[14:52] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> yeah is very useful because the player always have the same goal when rolling dice
[14:54] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> all the physical and mental attitudes, the skills etc give advantages or disadvantages to that single %
[14:54] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> (done)
[14:54] <~Dan> Is there a character sheet that we can see?
[14:56] <+Marco> (Nice to meet you too, Dan! I will let the author talk, I’m here as a supporter!)
[14:57] <~Dan> Still there, Giovanni-Shintiara? 🙂
[14:58] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> Yeah some connectivity problems
[14:58] <~Dan> Oh! That’s okay. Did you see my character sheet question?
[14:58] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> yeas Now I see it.
[15:00] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> (Link: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8UE2YSReQf0M0Q2cXVmd2ZDajg)https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8UE2YSReQf0M0Q2cXVmd2ZDajg
[15:00] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> here the sheet
[15:01] <~Dan> Can you translate the words to either side of Inner Strength?
[15:01] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> sorry is the Italian version
[15:01] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> give me a second
[15:03] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> I can give you the English version… 🙂 give me a second
[15:03] <~Dan> Take your time. 🙂
[15:05] <+Marco> meanwhile…I can translate: on the left you see Physical Attitudes (Power, Speed, Combat), on the right Mental Attitudes (Ego, Reason, Intuition)
[15:05] <~Dan> Do all skills fall under these attitudes?
[15:06] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> nop
[15:06] <~Dan> How do skills work?
[15:08] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> (Link: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B6QyejC54EzqbExzZEtZVVQyQlE)https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B6QyejC54EzqbExzZEtZVVQyQlE
[15:08] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> try this
[15:08] <&Beelzedude> (good night)
[15:08] <~Dan> Ah! Yes, that’s much better for us non-Italians. 🙂
[15:08] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> The system is quite easy
[15:08] <~Dan> (Good night, Beelzedude!)
[15:08] <+Marco> (good night)
[15:09] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> yeah we’re working on both Italian and english version. You know one of our playtesters is mothertongue… 😉
[15:09] <~Dan> 🙂
[15:09] <~Dan> Based on the character sheet, I take it that skill levels are added to associated attitudes?
[15:09] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> So first thing to understand is how rolling dice works
[15:10] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> exactly dan
[15:11] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> when you roll the % dice, you add another d10 called Asset die
[15:12] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> the asset die value is added to the tens die to calculate Disadvantages or subtracted to grant advantages.
[15:12] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> so imagine I have 55% of Inner strenght and 3 advantages
[15:13] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> I roll 60 and 7 = 67 failed
[15:13] <~Dan> (Welcome to #rpgnet, Mike!)
[15:14] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> then I roll the asset die = 4 so I can subtract all the 3 advantages from the tens. 67 – 30= 37 DONE!
[15:15] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> the Die permit you to add or subtract to the tens the result UP TO the number of advantages or disadvantages
[15:15] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> is it clear? (done)
[15:16] <~Dan> I think so… So if you’d rolled a 10, you’d still have subtracted 30 from the total, correct?
[15:16] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> no only 10
[15:17] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> I have 3 advantages, but i can only confirm 1 beacuse the result of the asset die is 10
[15:17] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> 60 +7 (% dice) – 10 (asset die) = 57 failed
[15:17] <~Dan> So what if the asset die came up 8?
[15:18] <+Marco> Well…I think Dan intende 10 on the %, so the answer is yes, you go under 0…still a succes!
[15:18] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> yes
[15:19] <~Dan> Okay, I think I understand.
[15:19] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> So if you have 8 or 9 advantages you roll the assed die. every result of 8 (or 9) or less can be subtracted from the tens
[15:19] <~Dan> And attitudes and skills add directly to Inner Strength?
[15:20] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> EVERYTHING is a Inner strength roll
[15:21] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> of course apart from the damage rolls and some other things
[15:22] <~Dan> How do damage rolls work?
[15:22] <+Marco> Attitudes and skills are basically advantages or disadvantages (if the attitude is poor)
[15:24] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> basically a weapon add to your base damage (based on your Power) 1d10 or more.
[15:24] <~Dan> So if my Power is 4, I’d roll 4d10, plus more d10s based upon weapon damage?
[15:25] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> perfect
[15:25] <~Dan> I see… And how does armor work?
[15:26] <~Dan> (wb, Agamemnon2!)
[15:26] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> the damage is open, so every ten means you can add another d10
[15:27] <+Marco> Armor give you a damage reduction and a parry value
[15:27] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> armor helps you to avoid damage (give disadvantages to attacker) and provide damage resistance
[15:27] <~Dan> Interesting… So you’re combining the Armor Class and Damage Reduction approaches.
[15:29] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> yeah actually you have 2 kind of defences: Parry (weapon or shield only) or dodge
[15:29] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> Parry is based on your weapon skill PLUS your armor defence value
[15:30] <~Dan> What happens if assets or disadvantages exceed 10?
[15:31] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> Dodge is based on your defensive maneuvers skill (or Speed attitude if you don’t have that skill) SUBTRACTED the defence value
[15:32] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> 10 advantages is an automatic success, 10 disadvantages is an automatic failure
[15:33] <+Marco> no need to count over 10 😛
[15:33] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> (done)
[15:34] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> 🙂
[15:34] <~Dan> How does time work in the game, given the temporal distortions?
[15:35] <+Marco> one last important thing is: if you have both advantages and disadvantages, an even number of both are nullified
[15:35] <+Marco> so if you have 3 adv. and 2 disadv., you roll with 1 adv.
[15:36] * ~Dan nods
[15:38] <+Marco> the temporal distortions are a probability…there’s a value in the game, it’s called Paradox Points
[15:39] <~Dan> How do they work?
[15:39] <+Marco> every object, person or location that don’t belongs to the present takes Paradox Points
[15:40] <+Marco> the sum of paradox points in the same location can trigger a timewarp (% every turn)
[15:42] <~Dan> I assume that’s very bad? 🙂
[15:42] <+Marco> timewarp are very dangerous and caothic, there’s a big and still expanding table 😉
[15:42] <~Dan> 🙂
[15:42] <+Marco> GM’s are free to add their timewarp effects too
[15:43] <~Dan> How advanced does technology get in the setting, and how powerful can magic be?
[15:43] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> quite bad… everything could happen even the complete destruction of the planet
[15:44] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> in every game session the world is in danger, and you have the power to save o condemn it
[15:45] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> technology is dangerous due to paradox points, but can bring great power (lightsabers, plasma rifles, communication systems…)
[15:47] <+Marco> Technology is circa reinassance time in the present of Shintiara, but minor timewarps and other influences of time distorsion brang every kind of stuff, prehistorical to sci-fi
[15:49] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> magic isn’t dangerous but people doesn’t trust magic-users very much
[15:49] <~Dan> Why is that?
[15:50] <+Marco> magic used to be very powerful and respected, but now is losing allure in front of the shining powerful futuristic (full of paradox) stuff
[15:51] <~Dan> Ah, I see.
[15:52] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> yeah on top of that many believes that a magic-user (the former chief of the Wizard Academy now one of the Champions of the Void) caused the collapse of the star that has become the black hole
[15:52] <+Marco> the mages are blamed by common people about the cataclysm that started the black hole and the time instability
[15:52] <~Dan> That makes sense.
[15:52] <+Marco> (Giovanni, ninjed! ahahah)
[15:53] <~Dan> Unfortunately, I need to head out shortly. Is there anything we haven’t covered that you’d like to bring up in the time remaining?
[15:53] <~Dan> And you’re welcome to come back tomorrow for a bit more time, if you’d like.
[15:56] <+Marco> I hope Giovanni could tell you about the Cosmos and the Void
[15:57] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> well, the focal point in Shintiara is that the game need your character to take decisions that can save or condemn the world, following the Cosmos (optimism, law, rationality, the star) or the Void (nihilism, chaos, irrationality). This moral choices give to his Inner strength the power to grow
[15:59] <~Dan> Cool. 🙂
[15:59] <~Dan> I do have to leave for now, unfortunately. Would you like to come back at the same time tomorrow to discuss the game further?
[16:00] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> that’s why we had to create a brand new system: more flexible and narrative. character creation is based on relational archetypes as the Pure, the renegade, the hero, the Mystery-man, the Wiseman
[16:01] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> no prob dan
[16:01] <~Dan> Okay! I’ll get the log posted this evening and link you, and we can talk further tomorrow.
[16:01] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> tomorrow same time we’re playtesting…
[16:01] <+Marco> Thank you Dan, for your time and your questions
[16:01] <~Dan> Oh! That’s okay. Standing offer, then.
[16:01] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> we have to schedule another day …
[16:01] * ~Dan nods
[16:01] <~Dan> And again, you’re always welcome to stop by any time you like.
[16:02] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> I have a little free download to offer here
[16:02] <~Dan> Oh, please do!

[16:02] <~Dan> Great!
[16:02] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> its only a tale…
[16:02] <~Dan> I’ll be sure to include that in the chat log.
[16:03] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> thank you
[16:03] <+Giovanni-Shintiara> !!
[16:03] <~Dan> Have a great evening!
